June is Men's Health Month, and we want to talk about something that does not get enough attention: weight is a men's health issue.

Carrying extra weight is directly linked to high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, low testosterone, sleep apnea, and heart disease. These are not side effects to ignore. They are warning signs your body is ready to change.

At Transition Medical Weight Loss in Salem NH, we have helped men lose 30, 50, even 100+ pounds through doctor supervised programs covered by most major insurance.

Big changes may be coming soon for Medicare patients who are interested in GLP-1 medications for weight loss.

Joe recently joined the GLP-1 Hub Podcast to help explain the upcoming CMS Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, which is expected to begin July 1, 2026.

This new program may allow eligible Medicare patients to access certain FDA-approved obesity medications, including medications such as Wegovy, oral Wegovy, Zepbound QuickPen, and Foundayo.

There is still a lot of confusion about how this will work, so the episode walks through some of the biggest questions patients may have, including:

βœ… Who may qualify
βœ… Which medications may be included
βœ… How the prior authorization process may work
βœ… Why starting weight and BMI history may matter
βœ… What patients should do if they are denied
βœ… How to watch out for scams
βœ… Why nutrition, protein, hydration, and strength training are still so important while using these medications

One important point: coverage may not only depend on your weight or BMI today. For some patients, your starting weight and BMI before medication may also be important, especially if you have already lost weight because the medication is working.

As always, these medications work best when they are part of a comprehensive plan that includes nutrition guidance, physical activity, medical monitoring, and long-term support.

We are also excited to share that Transition Medical Weight Loss expects to begin accepting Medicare insurance in the coming months. More information will be coming soon as we finalize the details.

In the meantime, this podcast episode is a helpful starting point for anyone trying to understand what may be coming with Medicare GLP-1 coverage.

At Transition Medical Weight Loss, we believe that raising awareness is an important part of improving obesity care.

Our Clinical Supervisor, Joseph Zucchi, PA-C, recently wrote an op-ed in the New Hampshire Union Leader discussing New Hampshire Medicaid’s decision to stop covering GLP-1 medications for obesity treatment and why this conversation matters for patients across our state.

Obesity is not a cosmetic issue or a personal failure. It is a chronic, complex medical disease that can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, heart disease, fatty liver disease, joint pain, and many other conditions.

Patients living with obesity deserve policies that reflect the science and recognize obesity as a chronic disease. We hope this op-ed helps continue an important conversation about access, stigma, and evidence-based obesity care in New Hampshire.

Struggling with stubborn belly fat even when you are eating well? Insulin resistance might be why.

When your body does not process insulin efficiently, it stores more fat, especially around the midsection, and makes it harder to access that fat for energy. It is one of the most common and underdiagnosed reasons people struggle to lose weight despite their best efforts.

At Transition Medical Weight Loss, comprehensive lab work is part of every patient's evaluation. We find what is actually going on, then build a plan around it.

Here is why yo-yo dieting keeps happening: every time you severely cut calories, your body adapts by slowing your metabolism. So the next time you try to lose weight, it is even harder.

This is not a willpower problem. It is biology.

A medically supervised weight loss program accounts for this. At Transition Medical Weight Loss in Salem NH, your plan is built around your metabolism, your labs, and your body, so you are not just losing weight. You are doing it in a way your body can sustain.
