In 2016 I was packing my suitcase for a trip to Europe, when I realized I needed a better solution for my nail supplies! I grabbed some scrap fabric and stitched together the very first Jumbo Pak, with 24 pockets to haul my supplies - and my European shopping - home. Upon my return I discovered the travel bag was also great for shopping trips and sending hauls to friends. I set about making an eve

ryday bag with 12 pockets, and that's how the standard PolishPak came to be! Sometime in 2017 I started making my own indie nail polish too. I was obsessed with thermals and the market didn't have what I wanted, so I started crafting my own with help from online indie communities. I released four polishes in 2018: Seattle (my hometown) a sheer thermal; Fargo, a purple solar; Torrevieja, a pink and purple solarthermal; and Cape Town, a multichrome. Since then I've released a few collections a year, all special effect formulas. My personal Paks have traveled to Asia, Europe, Canada, and pretty much every retail store in town. Where are yours going?

Pollera woman (the term Cholla is derogatory outside of Bolivia) selling medicinal herbs on the streets of San Miguel, La Paz. We bought some chamomile from her.

Historically mistreated and marginalized, Andean and Afro-Bolivian women are now starting to gain respect in Bolivian economy and government. However, generations of stolen opportunities have limited the ability of many families to move beyond street vending.

The Witches Market, although it has developed into a tourist attraction, still remains one of the best places in to find ingredients for traditional rituals and remedies.

Although Spanish colonization shaped this region, ancient Incan and modern Indigenous groups such as the Aymara and Quechua still speak their unique languages, dress in their traditional clothing styles, and teach their children the culture of the .

On Sundays the streets of the high plateau El Alto become one huge market. Known as Mercado 16 de Julio (the name of the main street), you can find just about anything for sale here, as long as you can tolerate the thin air.

Vendors call out their wares and the prices in a repeating chant that carries through the streets. Some set up in tents, others weave through the crowd with their merchandise in carts. Like most things in Bolivia, most things aren't set up until well after 10am.

One thing that I love about traveling is shopping, and provided no shortage of opportunities. From pop-up street fairs, booths in parks, makeshift convenience stores on every corner, and even carts traveling the streets, there was never any concern of being without a snack or sundry 🍫

The Valley of the Moon is just a few minutes from the city πŸŒ› Named for the strange landscape of crumbling clay columns, it's a fascinating place to walk through. Most of this region is built on unstable clay like this, which is why they built the Teleferico instead of a subway.

I felt right at home in La Paz. With the guardian visible on the horizon from everywhere in the city, it felt just like seeing Tahoma/Rainier peeking out of the clouds from every vantage in Seattle πŸ”οΈ

I absolutely loved riding the gondolas from one valley to the next, flying over neighborhoods and squeezing between skyscrapers. As the largest system in the world and at 20-30Β’ a ride, they're accessible to most folks and save a lot of hassle in the snarl of traffic and steep roads. They're also incredibly quiet, even coasting over the city's cemetery without disturbing the interred. A bucket-list item if you're like me!

If you guessed that I went to South America, you'd be right! 🌎 I traveled 6000 miles to visit Bolivia πŸ‡§πŸ‡΄ known for centuries as Chuqi Yapu by the Indigenous Aymara people.

Perched on a plateau and high valley of the mountains, this city is one of the highest in the world. At an elevation of over 4000m or 13000 feet in the area of El Alto, it's more than double the altitude of Denver, and requires a few days of physical adaptation.

I promise I'm not making these Oops polishes as some sort of marketing gimmick, I'm just really really tired 😴 It's easy to make mistakes when you're chronically ill. Anyway, it's a really pretty orchid mauve and it still turns a nice cool mint green.

I'll be closing the shop for a few weeks in August to do some international travel and then some resting πŸ’œ I'm hoping to come back from my trip with lots of inspo - it's been almost 7 years since I last used my passport ✈️
