Happy Friday! Here is a yummy restorative pose for anyone who needs to end their week with a little rest!
Balasana (child's pose) is a great cooling and restful pose. When fully supported as a restorative pose, it can be great for helping calm the brain, relieving neck/back tension, and because of the gentle compression of the stomach/chest it is great for digestion.
To find alignment in your body in this supported pose simply stack a bolster (or some pillows) and blankets until you can lay your belly and chest on them while keeping a relatively neutral or straight spine. The knees will be wide and the feet close together. Add a folded blanket on top of the calves for extra knee support and a rolled blanket under the ankles for extra support here.
When you arrive, let each inhale expand the back body just a little more and each exhale release any held tension in the body.
Stay for 5-10 minutes (or as long as you want!) and switch the direction your head faces about half way through.
Note: If you have serious low back, hip, knee, or ankle injuries this pose might not be for you and that's okay!
