Have you ever felt lonely in your commitment to self-care?
I was talking with a colleague recently, an herbalist, who shared that some of her clients have told her they feel lonely when they’re doing their castor oil packs.
It struck me because natural healing practices are rarely quick fixes. We have to carve out the time, make space in our lives, and sometimes miss out on other things happening with our families or friends in order to tend to ourselves.
Once we finally get everything set up and settle down to rest, all the worries, unfinished thoughts, and even the feeling of isolation can come pouring in.
Self-care can be nourishing, but it can also be lonely.
I know I’ve felt the sting of having to say “no” to social outings, fun food, and enjoyable activities that are simply scheduled at a time that doesn’t serve my health, in the name of committing to self-care.
Our culture is not built around health. Chronic diseases now affect approximately 60% of Americans (https://nihcm.org/publications/the-growing-burden-of-chronic-diseases), and many individuals are living with more than one chronic illness. If we want to shift toward a way of living that truly builds health, we may often feel like we’re swimming upstream.
For years I’ve held a vision to contribute to a shift toward connection, attunement, and living in support of real health—not fads and hacks. Finding our way back to our natural rhythms. Building self-remembrance into our daily lives. Generating a culture that can carry humanity forward into a new era of well-being.
In August, I was offered a grand opportunity: the chance to open a physical location for PranaBeing. A space to host group gatherings and one-on-one sessions. A resource to share with colleagues and the community. A literal physical container for building this work.
And I’ve been full-on since then, birthing this vision.
This is why I created Love Season.
This fall at PranaBeing, we’ll gather in community to practice snehana—the Ayurvedic practice of oiling the body as an act of nourishment, protection, and soothing. We’ll learn practices that can become part of our lives beyond these six weeks, while having the support of others alongside us.
When we receive oil, warmth, touch, and rest together, we aren't simply learning another self-care practice. We’re creating the conditions to settle out of constant activity and into deeper rest, nourishment, and connection.
Love Season begins September 16 and runs for six Wednesdays in the PranaBeing space in Salida. The group is intentionally intimate. You can join the whole journey or individual sessions.
