The Veggie Lady LLC Building healthier school communities & family homes one engaging lesson & fun food adventure at a time 🥕

Exposure, exposure, exposure. Let your kids touch, smell, and taste fresh produce every single day. When there are more healthy foods than unhealthy ones in their hands and mouths, they will naturally begin to choose the former over the latter.

The Veggie Lady loves getting right down on the floor with children, letting them have as much fun as possible with fruits and vegetables so the adventures are memorable ones.

The Veggie Lady is EXCITED! A partnering Principal sent me an email with a photo of his homegrown purple potatoes (left) and said he thought they'd be fun for the kids, so I went right out to and grabbed a box for my lessons at his school this week when I'll be there teaching about the health benefits of blue and purple fruits & veggies!
This is how collaboration works out beautifully for the benefit of students-- when The Veggie Lady gets to work directly with staff and administrators who value and can customize a program that works for the entire school community.

This is how The Veggie Lady helps impact the health of school communities, providing whole fruit and nutrition education during a candy-filled event. The kids hugged me in my giant banana costume and then eagerly wiped me out… over 420 fruits gone in under 90 minutes! And several parents said they were so very grateful to see a trunk with nutritious options.
This is all because Princess Anne Elementary gave me their Yes, because they prioritize healthy foods and nutrition education for their students! Thank you, PAES!

It peels so good to know I'm rollin' into a school Trunk or Treat event this evening with a hatchback full of nutrition for kids I love so much.

If you all could've seen these little ones' eyeballs popping out of their head when I opened my lesson with a giant pumpkin in my lap and said PUMPKINS ARE FOOD! They thought I was crazy!

Most kids have only seen pumpkins as decorations and don't understand that they grow on a vine and provide us nutrient-dense fruit and seeds.

So today, that was our focus! Kids learned all about the parts of a pumpkin and got to taste roasted sunflower seeds (which they absolutely loved!), and then they got to make their own little pumpkin pie in a cup. (Did you see the one student in the reel roll up her sleeves before she started smashing the graham crackers? 🤣) They had so much fun with this make-n-taste!!

If you want to make this recipe as a family, just mix a little canned pumpkin with some low sugar vanilla yogurt. Then let your kids shake some pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon on top. For the finale, have them smash up some graham crackers and sprinkle the crunchies on the very top. They absolutely loved this treat!

When The Veggie Lady gets invited to a primary school's Trunk or Treat event, you know there won't be any candy coming out of her hatchback 🤣 So excited to partner with PAES this Thursday evening. Stay tuned for the trunk reveal.

I love teaching young gardeners about the parts of a plant we can eat & letting them taste all 6 parts themselves. These kiddos at Northwestern were shocked to see me eat the leaves off a carrot I ripped out of my own garden before school. We talked about food waste and how much nutritious plant power gets thrown away every day (insert challenge for the 4th and 5th graders!!). Looking forward to the Zero Waste Day we are planning for the lunchroom and also looking forward to watching their new garden beds continue to produce!
