Obesity. Diabetes. Cardiovascular disease. Cognitive decline. Sleep apnea. Osteoporosis.

They show up as very different diagnoses. But what if many of these patients share some of the same underlying drivers?

At Course 3, we're looking upstream at the interconnected processes that may be contributing to them: β€’ Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia β€’ Hormonal dysfunction β€’ Chronic inflammation β€’ Visceral adiposity

The goal isn't to add more treatments for individual diagnoses. It's to see the connections earlier, and to have a more integrated framework for deciding where and how to intervene.

Chronic disease starts long before the diagnosis.

This November, WorldLink Medical takes the next step in the Optimal Medicine Series with Course 3: Advancing Chronic Disease Care β€” Root Cause to Resolution.

And we're excited to welcome back Dr. Bikman , one of the leading researchers and educators in metabolic health and insulin resistance. On Friday afternoon, he'll dig into three questions with big implications for patient care:

β€’ What is insulin resistance, and where does it come from? β€’ How does it contribute to chronic disease? β€’ What can we do to prevent or reverse it?

Bonus for in-person attendees: Dr. Bikman will be signing copies of his new book, The Carb Crisis, ahead of its public release.

That's a wrap on the 11th Annual Academic Summit. 🌴

The final morning brought Bill Campbell, PhD on evidence-based protein and supplementation, Amy de la Garza, MD on hormonal dysregulation in substance use and addiction, and Carrie Blades, MD closing the weekend with "When the Healer Needs Healing: A Physician's Battle with Thyroid and Breast Cancer."

Three days in Miami Beach, and the through-line held: the people presenting were the people who did the work.

Thank you to our faculty, and to everyone who spent a September weekend in a ballroom with a laptop open. You're the reason this exists.

"This is my first time speaking about this in public, and I couldn't think of a better group of people to share with."

Carrie Blades, MD closed the 11th Annual Academic Summit this morning with her own story β€” a session called "When the Healer Needs Healing: A Physician's Battle with Thyroid and Breast Cancer," given to a room of clinicians who usually sit on the other side of that conversation.

Three days of what the data shows. This morning, what it feels like.

Thank you, Dr. Blades, for trusting this room with it. 🀍

Final day at the Loews Miami Beach. 🌴

Three sessions and we're done by noon: Bill Campbell, PhD on evidence-based protein and supplementation, Amy de la Garza, MD on hormonal dysregulation in substance use and addiction, and Carrie F. Blades, MD closing the weekend with "When the Healer Needs Healing: A Physician's Battle with Thyroid and Breast Cancer."

Three days of evidence on caring for patients, and the last hour is about what happens when the clinician becomes one.

Closing remarks at 11:45.

Last call β€” what was your favorite takeaway of the weekend? Drop it in the comments.

That's day two in the books. 🌴

The day covered how clinicians can raise s*xual health with their patients, the cardiovascular and mortality evidence on hormone therapy, the neurobiology of menopause, gut health and nervous system regulation in BHRT, shared decision making for women with breast cancer, and risk stratification in preventive practice.

It closed with a faculty panel β€” Campbell, Hodis, Rasgon, Bosserman and Casperson taking questions from the room β€” and then a reception to keep the conversation going.

One more day to go.

What was your favorite takeaway from today? Drop it in the comments β€” we'd love to hear what's landing.

Kelly Casperson, MD opened day two β€” and if you couldn't be in the room for it, her book is the next best thing. πŸ“š

Her session covered how to talk to patients about s*x without making it weird. The book, You Are Not Broken, makes the same case: what patients bring in often gets treated as something wrong with them, when the real gap is a conversation nobody was trained to have.

Dr. Casperson (center) is joined here by Dr. Connie Casad and Dr. Gayle Frazetta.

Two days down, one to go at the Loews Miami Beach.

Day two at the Loews Miami Beach. 🌴

The agenda opens with something most medical meetings avoid β€” Kelly Casperson, MD on how to talk to patients about s*x without making it weird. It's a real clinical skills gap, and it sets the tone for the day.

From there: Howard Hodis, MD on the cardiovascular and mortality evidence for hormone therapy, Natalie Rasgon, MD, PhD on the neurobiology of menopause, Jennifer Joslin, NP on gut health and nervous system regulation in BHRT, Linda Bosserman, MD, PhD on shared decision making for women with breast cancer, and Tareq Khader, MD on risk stratification in preventive practice.

Faculty panel at 4:30, reception this evening.

Here with us? Drop your favorite takeaway in the comments β€” we'd love to hear what's landing.

That's a wrap on day one. 🌴

A full room, laptops open, questions running right into the breaks β€” exactly what we hope for on a Friday in Miami Beach.

Today covered the WHI and what the data actually shows, hormone therapy and breast cancer risk, GLP-1 therapy and lean mass preservation, menopause and metabolic health, and prostate cancer decision-making.

Two more days to go.

What was your favorite takeaway from today? Drop it in the comments β€” we'd love to hear what's landing.

Featured speaker from day one: David Kern, ND of Grace Health Center. 🎀

His session covered menopause, metabolic health and nutritional strategy β€” and how the three work together rather than in sequence.

Nutrition and metabolic health often get treated as the follow-up to the hormone conversation. This one put them at the center.
