University of Utah Health has been recognized by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) with its new, highest-tier age-friendly designation: Level 3 Excellence in System-wide Spread.

New research from University of Utah Health and UC San Diego is providing a clearer picture of how heart failure develops at the cellular level.

Published in Science, the study created the first single-cell map of gene regulatory networks driving heart failure. By analyzing more than 750,000 heart cells, researchers identified changes in gene regulation that could point to new targets for future treatments.

Stavros Drakos, MD, PhD, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, is a corresponding author on the study.

A routine colonoscopy changed everything for Jody Hilton.

After years of stomach pain, Jody’s first colonoscopy revealed a large precancerous polyp. She was referred to Daryl Ramai, MD, from our Division of Gastroenterology, who used a minimally invasive procedure to successfully remove the mass.

Today, Jody is pain-free and cancer-free. Her story is an important reminder to listen to your body and stay up to date on colorectal cancer screening.

New research led by Dr. Neeraj Agarwal, Professor in the Division of Oncology, found that a novel combination therapy reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 52% in select patients with advanced prostate cancer.

Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, these findings highlight the potential of earlier, personalized treatment to improve outcomes for patients with specific genetic alterations.
