One of the most powerful language-building strategies for children with hearing differences isn't expensive, doesn't require special materials, and takes zero extra time.

In fact, you're probably not doing it because nobody talks about it.
It's called narrating your life.

Instead of asking your child questions all day, tell them what's happening:

"I'm opening the door."

"The water is warm."

"I'm cutting the apple."

These simple comments give your child thousands of opportunities to connect words with real experiences.

The best part? You're already doing the activities. You just add the language.

Small shift. Big impact.

“How do I know if this child is truly hearing what I think they’re hearing?”

That question keeps teachers of the deaf, audiologists, SLPs, and parents awake at night.

Because passing a hearing test doesn’t always mean a child is accessing, processing, or understanding sound in meaningful ways.

And when we miss the signs… children can fall behind while everyone assumes they’re “doing fine.”

That’s why this upcoming Test of Auditory Functioning (TAF) Learning Series matters.

Join Don Goldberg, Ph.D. and Carrie Norman, M.S., CCC-SLP, LSLS AVEd. for a powerful 3-part learning experience designed to help you better evaluate auditory functioning in hearing diverse learners and actually APPLY what you learn between sessions.

📅 Sept. 15, 22 & Oct. 6
🕕 6–7 p.m. CST

This is not just another webinar series.

It’s practical, real-world learning you can use immediately with the children you support every day.

At 11 years old, she failed a school hearing test.

The teacher thought she was joking.

Her classmates laughed.

What no one realized was that she had been hard of hearing her entire life — teaching herself to read lips because her family couldn’t afford hearing aids.

Today, she is a TEDx speaker, nonprofit founder, and advocate changing lives for deaf and hard of hearing children across the country.

We are honored to welcome Christy Vogel, founder of Sounding Joy, as our keynote speaker for Virtual Conference 2027 hosted by Supporting Success for Children with Hearing Loss.

This is a keynote you will not forget.

We are incredibly grateful for the kind words shared by one of our international attendees from Melbourne, Australia, following our March Mini-Conference:

“We have nothing like in Australia and so we look forward to your conferences each year.”

It’s inspiring to hear how our community of professionals, parents, and students around the world benefit from the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

One highlight for this attendee was hearing Max and Angie’s honest story about late cochlear implantation and the ongoing journey of adapting to “new ears.” Another favorite was the AI presentation, which offered practical tools and shortcuts for today’s fast-moving educational landscape.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, presented, and helped make this event meaningful for our global community.

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

For many educators, it wasn’t a lifelong plan. It was a moment.

An interaction with a student.

A connection that shifted perspective.

An experience that made the impact of this work feel real.

Sometimes it’s seeing a student advocate for themselves for the first time.

Sometimes it’s watching confidence grow in small, powerful ways.

Sometimes it’s realizing that the right support can change everything.

Those moments stay with you. They’re often the reason this path becomes the right one.

Every student has a story. Every teacher becomes part of it.

So—when did you know?
