9 years ago I posted about waking up from a total hysterectomy after 10 years of being told my pain was "just cysts," that periods were supposed to hurt, that my 2 previous leep procedures for cervical cancer caused scar tissue that was most likely the cause of my "discomfort." But I knew something way worse was happening...
Then the time came when my surgeon told me it was the worst case of endometriosis he'd ever seen. He said there was no way I could've kept living like that. To this day, Dr. Ornelas is the only doctor who ever truly listened to me instead of dismissing what I was feeling, and I will be grateful to him for the rest of my life. π
What I didn't share back then was that Graves' disease had already been wrecking me for a few years before that. I was told surgery was the only option (now we know that's not true). So by the time the endometriosis started, I was already dealing with hypothyroidism. I was very sick and so disconnected from my body that I hated it and living in it.
That's when I found Reiki. A way to manage pain my doctors couldn't fully explain yet, and a way to actually listen to my body instead of just fighting it. In the beginning, it gave me peace, something to focus on other than my symptoms.
After the hysterectomy, during my recovery, my practice deepened into something bigger than pain management. It became about finding spirit, falling back in love with a body I'd spent years resenting, and trusting it again. That practice has grown alongside my salon work ever since, until the two became inseparable. I do hair because it's who I am. I will always be a hairstylist who brings a healing aspect into everything I do. β¨οΈ
If you come see me for Reiki or anything else, you're working with someone who's been in it. I know the pain, the grief that comes with fighting your own body, the exasperation of not being believed, the emotional and spiritual darkness that can creep in when you're sick for a long time. You don't need to be in a dark place to receive Reiki, you can come just to relax, but if you need a guide through the depths of what this practice can offer, I'm here with open arms.
Come find your peace, Moonbeams. π
1st photo is before I had my thyroid removed. You can clearly see the swelling of my thyroid.
2nd is waking up from my hysterectomy, and was at the sickest point of my life.
The rest is what recovery looked liked for me and how my health changed when I started treating my life and body with loving attention.
Reiki changed my life, so much so that I became a Practitioner and Master Instructor so that I can share this beautiful practice with others. Thank you, Pamela, for being such a huge part of my journey.
And a huge shout out to my amazing husband who has stood beside me every step of the way. I couldn't do life without you. I love you to death and beyond, Aaron. π
