We had a blast and we're so grateful for the opportunity to register and educate our community about the importance of organ donation.

September is National DMV Appreciation Month! 💙💚🚗

National DMV Appreciation Month recognizes the vital role of DMVs and Driver License Partners (DLPs) in saving and healing lives by asking customers the donor registration question every day.
Our DMV partners are the people on the front lines of service who have helped more than 170 million people across the country register their decision to be a deceased organ, eye and tissue donor.

We are extremely excited and proud to share that the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services has approved the full merger of Southwest Transplant Alliance and Texas Organ Sharing Alliance into one organ procurement organization – the Gift of Life Alliance.

By coming together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to strengthen organ donation for over 19 million Texans and across so many Texas communities we have the privilege serving: from Dallas to San Antonio, from Austin to El Paso, from the Coastal Bend and the Rio Grande Valley to Waco, from Tyler to Midland-Odessa, and beyond. Together, we will work with and within each community to transform more lives through the gift of donation.

Reaching this moment has stretched us as organizations, required immense patience and perseverance, and demanded an incredible amount of time and energy from our teams and our governing boards, making this approval especially meaningful.

We're incredibly grateful to our employees, boards, hospital partners, donor families, transplant partners, communities, and everyone who has supported us throughout this journey.

As the countless lives that Denise P. changed as a teacher mourn her loss, her family and community are finding comfort in knowing that her legacy will continue.

"Even though she's not going to be with us, she's still going to help people from beyond. And that's all she ever wanted to do," her brother Mathew E. shared in a recent story with KRGV.

Denise P. was just starting her 25th year of teaching. She taught second grade and coached cheerleading. The family shared that students gathered outside her hospital window and sang a song their teacher had taught them.

Thank you to KRGV for sharing her story and honoring her remarkable impact in the RGV community.

Students and community members in Edinburg gathered to support the family of Canterbury Elementary teacher Denise Pineda ahead of her honor walk for organ donation following a sudden brain aneurysm.

Newly crowned Miss Texas Volunteer Elle Rylee is turning a deeply personal loss into a mission to save lives.

Inspired by her cousin, Birdie, Rylee has made organ donation awareness the cornerstone of her year of service, using her platform to educate others about the importance of becoming a registered donor.

As she begins representing Texas, Rylee is committed to honoring her family's story while encouraging her community to make a decision that could give someone else a second chance at life.

As a Friends for Life Volunteer, Elle’s mission is to share her cousin’s story and continue spreading awareness so that families can experience the gift of life.

Texans can save lives in more ways than one. 💙

Donation doesn’t only happen after someone has passed. Through living donation, Texans may be able to give the gift of life while they’re still here, helping someone in need get a second chance.

Living donors may be able to donate:

🩺 Kidney — The most common living donation, since most people can live a healthy life with one kidney.

💚 Part of the liver — The liver can regenerate, making partial donation possible.

🌬️ Part of a lung — In rare cases, a lung lobe may be donated.

🧠 Part of the intestine — Rare, but possible in certain medical situations.

🦴 Bone marrow or stem cells — Often used to help treat diseases like leukemia and other blood disorders.

Living donation is a personal decision and requires a thorough medical evaluation to determine if someone is a suitable candidate.
