🚨‼️Calling all residents and fellows! 🚨‼️

Now accepting applications for the Health Systems Chief Resident, see below a quote from our current chief about why she chose this role after residency and her impact on the institution. Please email [email protected] with your CV and letter of interest.

From Dr. Lugo: “As a physician interested in leadership, graduate medical education and improving the care we provide to patients, the Health Systems Science Chief Resident Position was a perfect fit for me after completing residency. I have gotten the opportunity to network and learn from the leaders at University Hospital and UT San Antonio. It is rare that a physician fresh out of residency gets to sit in meetings with Deans, CMOs, and VPs of such a large institution, provide the perspective of a resident/new faculty, and gets to participate in decisions that affect our learners and patients. I have also been given the opportunity to work on quality improvement projects in areas of healthcare that interest me. Learning what goes on behind the curtain of healthcare is not something usually taught in residency, but its invaluable to our careers as physicians. This year will inevitably set me up for success as a physician leader.”

UT Health Graduate Medical Education celebrates Dr. Dianna Burns-Banks for her contributions to helping those who were not able to access health care. “It’s almost a moral shame that we would be in such a rich society, and there are so many people who can’t get routine health care.”

Dear Interns, Residents, and Fellows,

I want to personally take a moment to say “thank you” for all you do every day to take care of our very deserving patients.

You are indeed the front line of care, along with our nursing and other medical staff in our major teaching sites. You inspire us, your faculty, daily with your commitment to our mission to put patients first while we remain invested in your personal and professional growth.

I and so many others will never forget your care during the unprecedented time of the COVID Pandemic. As we move ahead in this age of the “new normal,” we will continue to look to you to help us on this journey! I want you to know that I and some of your faculty have also struggled at times during the last two years of the Pandemic.

Of all days, on National Doctors Day, we need to pause and ensure we are dedicated to one another as “Brothers and Sisters Keepers.” I was saddened to hear from a trainee who had spent a number of years with us they were not aware of our wealth of resources to guide our trainees. Please take the opportunity to visit our Work-Life Wellness Page today.

Finally, I hope you are aware of our House Staff Council. They are your advocates before the University and our major hospitals. Please consider becoming involved if not already. Our responsibility as advocates for the profession and our patients begins now.

Happy

Sincerely, Scott
