Bariatric Counseling Center

Bariatric Counseling Center Behavioral healthcare for people struggling with over-eating, emotional eating, and weight-loss.

We are an Intensive Outpatient Program geared towards assisting people whose prior weight loss attempts have not been successful because their dieting habits were unsustainable. We focus on creating that change through insight and awareness into one’s relationship with food and developing realistic habits that you can sustain throughout your life. In our program, you will establish adaptive coping

mechanisms to reduce the use of food to cope with stress and emotions and eliminate binge eating and other problematic behaviors. We come together as a community to prepare and eat a meal at each session, learning new cooking and eating habits that support your success. You will do all of this in a community who understands the struggle.

Our team reads. πŸ“š

Dr. Sara Hamilton is currently listening to Lindy West's Adult Braces: Driving Myself Sane. It's the kind of book that makes you laugh and think at the same time.

We love when our team shares what they're into lately.

Ever feel like you have to finish the food once it's been made even when you're already full? It's a pretty common experience.

For a lot of people it comes from:
🍽️ Growing up with "clean your plate" expectations
🌱 Not wanting to waste food
πŸ“ Cooking portions that don't match current needs
πŸ’ Feeling responsible for the food being made

Over time, this can disconnect you from your body's fullness cues and turn eating into something you feel obligated to complete rather than something you choose.

Try this: pause halfway through your meal. Take a deep breath. Ask yourself: "Am I still hungry, or am I just finishing this because it's there?

"You don't have to finish everything to be "doing it right." Listen to your body. β€” Aaron Beltran, LPC-A

Recovery looks like progress, not perfection. It's the small, consistent choices that lead to lasting change.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to remind you: healing doesn't happen all at once. It happens in the quiet moments. The choice you made today, the boundary you held, the meal you were present for. That's what progress looks like. πŸ’™

You cannot tell someone's struggle by looking at their body.

Eating disorders don't have a "look." Disordered eating isn't about willpower or not trying hard enough.

More often, it's about coping. Survival. Patterns. Pain. Trying to manage emotions the best way someone knows how.

Shame keeps people silent.
Compassion opens the door to healing.

On World Eating Disorders Action Day, we are proud to stand alongside professionals and communities in more than 45 countries united around one theme:
Stop Stigma. Start Care. Together.

If you or someone you love has been quietly struggling, today is a good day to reach out.
