Today we honor Juneteenth, a day that celebrates freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equity.
Nearly 1 in 4 Black adults in the U.S. lives with a disability, and more than 6.3 million Black Americans report having a disability (CDC; University of New Hampshire Disability Research Center). Black adults are also more likely to experience serious psychological distress while facing barriers to accessing mental health care (Mental Health America; NAMI).
At Caliber Therapies, cultural competency is an essential part of Recreational Therapy, Aquatic Therapy, and Music Interventions. We believe care should reflect each person’s lived experience, culture, strengths, and community.
As we recognize Juneteenth, we are reminded that disability, mental health, and racial equity are deeply connected. Today we celebrate freedom, honor resilience, and recommit to providing inclusive, person-centered care.
