Parents of disabled students should not have to become investigators, legal experts, and full-time advocates just to secure the services and supports their children are already entitled to under the law.

Yet, as the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforcement weakens, more families are being left to navigate discrimination, exclusion, and denial of services without support.

Education is a right, and we must be able to defend it.

Why Purposeful Advocacy?
We combine compassion with action and stay grounded in the bigger goal, even when progress is slow.
Some qualities that often define us at a purposeful advocacy are:
* Listening first- We make people feel heard and understood before trying to speak for them.
* Clarity of purpose- We know what we are fighting for and why it matters.
* Consistency- We continue showing up, not just when attention is high or convenient.
* Courage- We are willing to challenge unfair systems, difficult conversations, or uncomfortable truths.
* Empathy with boundaries- We care deeply while also protecting our own well-being so we can continue the work long-term.
* Education and curiosity- We keep learning from lived experiences, research, and the community we serve.
* Collaboration- We understand advocacy is stronger when people work together instead of competing for attention.
* Action-oriented mindset- We move beyond awareness into meaningful change, whether through policy, support, community building, or storytelling.
* Humility- We do not center ourselves; we center the people and cause we are advocating for.
* Hope- Even in difficult moments, we help others believe change is possible.

A purposeful advocate often becomes a bridge that connects people to understanding, resources, inclusion, and change.

What an honor to receive a special invite to the San Antonio City Council meeting to witness one of my former students speak about Autism Awareness. I’ve seen him grow so much since he was 4, and today he showed everyone what he’s capable of. The sky is the limit for Emerson and all the incredible kids with autism ♾️
