Did you know that chiropractic helps you adapt to stress more efficiently?
How do we measure this? Heart Rate Variability.
According to Effect of Chiropractic Care on Heart Rate Variability and Pain in a Multisite Clinical Study by Dr. Zhang, et. al- After a single adjustment, the mean heart rate reduced, the standard deviation of normal-to-normal intervals increased, and both high-frequency and low-frequency components increased, indicating improvements in parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system activity. Pain scores also reduced significantly.
Research done by Dr. Heidi Haavik, indicates that chiropractic care appears to increase the healing and calming side of the autonomic nervous system, specifically the parasympathetic nervous system - your rest and digest, where you want your baseline to be. Stress activates your sympathetic nervous system - fight, flight, fawn or freeze. The research showed that among 539 adults who had HRV recorded before and after adjustments, there were significant improvements in HRV measurements. Additionally, 111 adults who had HRV measured across four weeks of chiropractic care showed sustained improvements in their measurements over that time period.
