🎸 Is your instrument playing you — right into my chiropractic office?
As both a chiropractor and a musician, I've lived this problem from both sides of the stage.
Musicians pour hours into practice, chasing the perfect tone, timing, and technique. But there's one thing most sheet music doesn't teach: posture.

Guitarists hunching over fretboards. Violinists cradling their instrument with a twisted neck. Pianists reaching with rounded shoulders. Drummers locked into repetitive spinal flexion. I've felt it myself, and I see it every day in my practice.

Here's what we know from research:

→ Musicians face high risk of musculoskeletal disorders due to repetitive movements, awkward postures, and long hours of practice→ Common issues include carpal tunnel, tendonitis, cervical/lumbar radiculopathy, and chronic back pain→ Poor posture creates muscle imbalances — some muscles overstretch and weaken, while others shorten and tighten — setting the stage for slipped discs, sciatica, and nerve compression

How chiropractic helps musicians stay in tune — physically:

✅ Spinal alignment — corrects the foundational posture issues that instruments force on the body✅ Pain relief — addresses chronic neck, shoulder, and back pain without masking it✅ Improved range of motion — helps with finger, wrist, and shoulder mobility✅ Nervous system function — proper alignment supports the nerve pathways that control every note you play✅ Injury prevention — regular adjustments catch imbalances before they turn into time-off injuries

🎤 I also do health talks for musicians — from school music departments to touring bands. I break down what's happening in your body while you play, and what you can do about it before pain forces you off stage.
Play better, longer. Whether you're a session player, a touring act, or a weekend warrior behind a drum kit, your body is your most important instrument. And it deserves a maintenance plan.

Your Spine Is Capping Your VO2 Max (The Zone 2 Secret No One Talks About)

Zone 2 cardio is everywhere right now. And yes, VO2 max really is the #1 predictor of how long you’ll live, beating cholesterol and blood pressure.
But here is what nobody in the fitness world is telling you: your spine determines your Zone 2 ceiling.
Thoracic kyphosis (that rounded upper back from years at a desk) reduces your lung capacity by up to 15-20%. Forward head posture disrupts your diaphragm mechanics. The result? Your heart rate climbs out of Zone 2 without any increase in effort. You think you’re “not fit enough.” You’re not. You’re structurally restricted.
Three spine exercises before every Zone 2 session change this completely:
1. Thoracic extension over foam roller
2. Open-book rotations
3. Cervical chin-tucks
Four minutes. Done before every walk, bike, or golf round.
DM me ZONE2 and I’ll send you the free Spine Mobility Protocol for Zone 2 Training.
Your VO2 max has been waiting.

Here's one supplement I actually recommend (and use myself).

Most people think adaptogens are just wellness hype.
As a chiropractor who competes in Masters Track & Field, I look at the clinical data — and ashwagandha is one of the few supplements that actually earns its place in a serious longevity and performance protocol.

Here's what the research shows:

✅ Cortisol reduction — Chronic stress is one of the fastest accelerators of biological aging. KSM-66 ashwagandha extract has been shown to reduce cortisol by up to 27% in peer-reviewed trials.

✅ VO2 max improvement — A 2021 study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition showed significant improvement in cardiorespiratory endurance with 8 weeks of supplementation. For my sprinting — that matters.

✅ Testosterone support — For men 35+, natural testosterone decline is real. Clinical doses of ashwagandha have been shown to support healthy testosterone levels without pharmaceutical intervention.

✅ Muscle recovery & strength — Studies show meaningful gains in muscle strength and faster post-exercise recovery — exactly what you need to train hard and stay consistent at any age.

The key is dosage and form. Look for KSM-66 or Sensoril extract, 300–600mg daily. Most commercial products underdose.

I'm not selling you a supplement. I'm telling you what's in my protocol — and why. If you're over 35 and serious about performing well into your 60s, 70s, and beyond, the foundation is: move well, recover well, manage stress. Ashwagandha supports all three.

Stretching shouldn’t be complicated. If you sit at a desk all day, your traps, levator scapulae, SCM, and scalenes get locked up and start pulling on your neck and skull like crazy. Here are four quick releases that target each one so you can reset your posture without leaving your chair. Do these once every hour and watch your tension disappear.
