Why do so many women choose pain over pleasure?

Because pain feels familiar.

Many women have spent years living in survival mode…
Over-functioning.
People pleasing.
Over-giving.
Suppressing needs.
Staying emotionally guarded.
Carrying everyone else while abandoning themselves.

Not because they’re weak…

But because those survival protector strategies once kept them “safe.”

The nervous system will always choose what is familiar over what is healthy until it experiences something different.

And for many women, pain has been practiced more than pleasure.

More than rest.
More than joy.
More than softness.
More than receiving.
More than honest communication.
More than being fully met.

But eventually the body reaches its threshold.

You become exhausted from learning only through heartbreak, burnout, disappointment, self-abandonment, and emotional survival.

And this is where healing begins.

Because the nervous system needs NEW lived experiences to build evidence that it is safe to:
• Receive
• Feel joy
• Experience pleasure
• Rest
• Be supported
• Communicate desires and needs
• Take up space without guilt

This is the shift from survival to the Mature Mother energy.

The woman who stops waiting to be rescued…
And starts becoming the safe, grounded, self-honoring leader of her own life.

“Pleasure reminds a woman she is alive.”

I think many women have spent so much of their lives surviving that they’ve forgotten what it feels like to truly experience joy, softness, play, rest, and presence without guilt attached to it.

We were conditioned to believe our worth came from:
• how much we produced
• how much we gave
• how much we carried
• how composed we stayed while overwhelmed

But eventually the body starts speaking.

Burnout.
Numbness.
Disconnection.
Exhaustion.
Feeling emotionally flat even when life “looks fine.”

Because women were never meant to live disconnected from pleasure.

And I’m not talking only about sexuality.

I’m talking about the kind of pleasure that reconnects you to your humanity:
A deep breath.
A nourishing meal.
Music.
Nature.
Being held emotionally.
Laughter.
Movement.
Creativity.
Rest.
Connection.

Pleasure is not selfish.
It is restorative.

The Mature Feminine understands that healing is not only about processing pain…
it is also about increasing our capacity to feel alive again.

There comes a moment where every woman has to ask herself:

Am I still waiting for someone else to save me, choose me, reassure me, or create safety for me?

Or am I becoming the Mature Mother within myself — the woman who nurtures, honors, protects, and takes responsibility for her own life?

So many women learned to survive through self-abandonment, over-giving, people pleasing, emotional suppression, and waiting for external validation.

But eventually…
life asks us to stop waiting.

NO ONE is coming to rescue you.

Not because you are unsupported.
But because your power was never meant to live outside of you.

Lisa and I had such a powerful conversation around the Wounded Maiden archetype vs the Mature Mother and how women are being called into deeper self-trust, emotional responsibility, and embodied leadership now more than ever.

This conversation is for the woman who is exhausted from carrying survival patterns that no longer fit the woman she is becoming.

🔥PLAY IS WHERE YOUR PLEASURE AND POWER HOLD HANDS ✨

🫵Somewhere along the way, play became...optional.

‼️We were taught to be productive instead of playful.

❌To prioritize performance over pleasure.
❌To get serious if we wanted to be taken seriously.

But here’s the truth most women are never told:

👉 Play isn’t the opposite of power—it’s the path to it.

🌹When you allow yourself to play, you reclaim the parts of you that were silenced, softened, or shamed.
🌹You reawaken desire.
🌹You restore creativity.
🌹You rebuild safety in your body.

💥 Pleasure without shame.
💥 Power without burnout.
💥 Joy without justification.

Play is how the nervous system breathes.

How the feminine opens. How the high-achieving woman returns to herself.

If you’ve forgotten how to play, your body hasn’t.
It’s waiting for you to remember.

RECLAIMING yourself takes a radical amount of courage… but more importantly, it requires safety in the nervous system.

Many women — myself included — learned to hide parts of ourselves:
our emotions,
our voice,
our needs,
our truth,
our ability to communicate what hurt us,
and our desire to ask for more.

Not because we were weak, but because we were conditioned to disconnect from ourselves in order to survive.

This happens through family systems, societal conditioning, toxic models of power and control, and years of over-functioning, people-pleasing, and self-abandonment.

Eventually the body gets exhausted carrying what it was never meant to hold alone.

And what was once dormant begins asking to be reclaimed.

Your voice.
Your emotional truth.
Your standards.
Your feminine wisdom.
Your authentic expression.

Sometimes what is being triggered in your life right now is actually an invitation back into alignment with yourself.

If this resonates deeply, join Lisa and myself on June 6th for NO ONE’S COMING — a transformational workshop for women ready to reclaim safety, stability, support, self-trust, and embodied leadership.

“You are allowed to soften.”

Hyper-independence almost killed me.

And to be honest… it hardened my feminine.

I spent years believing strength meant handling everything alone, carrying the emotional weight of everyone around me, suppressing my needs, and staying guarded so I wouldn’t get hurt again.

That survival pattern came from family wounds, toxic patriarchal conditioning, betrayal, emotional inconsistency, and years of not feeling safe enough to fully open my heart.

So I became hyper-capable.
Hyper-responsible.
Hyper-independent.

But eventually I realized the armor protecting me was also disconnecting me from softness, intimacy, emotional safety, support, and authentic connection.

For the last 6 years, I have devoted my life to reclaiming my feminine and continuing to soften… even through the pain.

And what I’ve learned is this:

The deeper I allowed myself to truly feel my pain instead of avoiding it, the deeper my compassion became.

The deeper I honored grief, heartbreak, disappointment, and truth, the deeper my empathy became.

The deeper I used my voice — even when it risked changing relationships or outcomes — the more authentic and free I became.

Softness is not weakness.

It is courage.
It is embodiment.
It is healing.
The world does not need more women surviving through emotional armor and exhaustion.

It needs women devoted to their emotions, truth, voice, compassion, and softness — because from this place, we begin creating safer relationships, safer communities, and a softer world for all of us.

DROP “I WANT TO SOFTEN” if you are ready to release the armor and heal the hyper-independence that has kept your heart guarded.

What if the “strong woman” so many women became… was actually a survival response?

For generations, women have been conditioned to equate strength with endurance, self-sacrifice, emotional labor, and chronic over-functioning. Many women learned that being dependable, composed, productive, and endlessly available was what made them valuable.

But women are not struggling because they are weak.

They are struggling because they are carrying an unsustainable amount of pressure for an unsustainable amount of time — while biologically, hormonally, emotionally, and neurologically operating in systems that were never designed to support the level of chronic output modern women are expected to sustain.

And the numbers are finally reflecting what so many women have silently felt in their bodies for years.

In 2026, 6 in 10 senior-level women reported frequent burnout — the highest level recorded in recent years. Even more alarming, 70% of women in senior leadership roles for less than five years reported experiencing frequent burnout.

This is not simply a productivity issue.
It is a nervous system issue.

When survival becomes normalized long enough, women begin disconnecting from rest, support, boundaries, emotional safety, and even their own bodies.

Healing is not about becoming better at carrying more.
It’s about creating enough safety and support that women no longer have to survive everything alone.

This week’s blog dives deeper into the nervous system patterns underneath the “strong woman” identity and why women were never meant to carry this much alone.

Women are carrying an unsustainable amount of pressure for an unsustainable amount of time.

For years many of us learned how to survive by:
• forcing
• proving
• over-performing
• over-functioning
• disconnecting from our bodies

And while these strategies may have helped us succeed externally… many women are now realizing how deeply disconnected they feel internally.

We have normalized chronic stress, emotional exhaustion, hyper-independence, and constantly being “the strong one.”

But living this way is not sustainable for the female body.

Lisa and I are inviting women into a deeper conversation through our upcoming 3-hour workshop: No One’s Coming.

This experience is about reclaiming:
✨ Safety
✨ Stability
✨ Support
✨ Self-trust
✨ Feminine receptivity
✨ A new way of leading and living

Because women deserve success that does not require self-abandonment.
