As part of this powerful talk on cultural competency in dysphagia care, we experienced live food demos featuring dishes adapted for texture and safety—while honoring culture and flavor:

🥣 Kissel (a smooth, thickened fruit-based drink/dessert)
🍆 Baba ghanoush (blended eggplant dip)
🥬 Palak paneer (a creamy spinach and cheese dish)

🎤 Erika Winkler, MS, RD, CSO, CNSC reminded us that when we integrate cultural foods into dysphagia management, we:
✔️ Improve patient adherence
✔️ Enhance dignity and comfort
✔️ Deliver truly patient-centered care

✨ Whether in-person or virtual, this experience is redefining oncology nutrition care.

Attending the Oncology Nutrition Symposium in person?

Consider yourself lucky, you’re sharing the room with true ON DPG powerhouses and legends.

Meet Elaine Trujillo and Colleen Spees, leaders who continue to raise the bar in oncology nutrition care.

In their session, they discussed one of the most critical challenges in cancer care:
Identifying malnutrition, and more importantly, what we’re doing to support patients at risk.

As co-chairs of the Oncology Nutrition Improved Patient Access to Care Team (ON IMPACT) within the Oncology Nutrition DPG, their work is transforming access, standards, and outcomes for patients across the continuum of care.

This is the kind of session that empowers your everyday clinical work.

Today’s cutest attendee at the Oncology Nutrition Symposium 🐶📚

Tonka sat in (very attentively, I might add) on:
“Oncology RD Scope of Practice: Utilizing Technical Skills for Malnutrition, Sarcopenia, and Cachexia”

Here’s what he “learned” 🐾✨
• How oncology dietitians assess changes in body composition in cancer patients
• The difference between malnutrition, sarcopenia, and cachexia (yes, he’s basically an expert now)
• The importance of using evidence-based tools to better monitor and support patients

His final review:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Highly recommends for all oncology RDs
