🌟 Embracing Self-Care and Self-Love as an Amputee 🌟

Today, I want to celebrate the small but powerful ways we can prioritize self-care and self-love on our journeys as amputees. Every action we take to care for ourselves not only boosts our confidence but also reminds us of our resilience and strength.

Recently, I decided to give my prosthetic feet some much-deserved attention by painting my nails. This simple act became a beautiful reminder of my individuality and creativity. It’s amazing how a little self-care can transform our perspective and enhance our well-being!

Here are a few small practices I’ve found helpful in cultivating self-love:

1. Pamper Yourself - Treat yourself to a spa day at home. Whether it’s soaking your feet, giving yourself a pedicure, or just enjoying a relaxing bath, these moments are essential for recharging both body and mind.

2. Find Your Expression - Engage in creative activities that allow you to express yourself. This can be through art, music, or even customizing your prosthetic designs. Letting your personality shine through is a powerful form of self-care.

3. Mindfulness and Reflection - Take some time to meditate or reflect on your journey. Acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small, and give yourself grace as you navigate challenges.

4. Connect with Community - Surround yourself with supportive friends and fellow amputees who understand your experiences. Sharing stories and tips can create a sense of belonging and uplift your spirits.

5. Celebrate Progress - Set small, achievable goals related to your self-care routine. Celebrating these milestones can provide motivation and a sense of accomplishment.

Remember, self-care isn’t just a luxury; it’s a necessity. By taking the time to nurture our well-being, we empower ourselves to embrace each day with confidence and love. 💖✨

What are some of your favorite self-care rituals? Let’s inspire each other!

One of my first social media videos as an amputee and sepsis advocate! Over 4 years ago!

My life changed so much after this. I had about 200 followers then. I have more than 1000 times that now! Life is crazy. Thank you for the love, everyone.

Our communities of amputees, people with chronic illness, sepsis survivors and people looking for inspo and friends on social media is amazing! 🙏🏼🌺🙌🏼💕

Time to strut my stuff 🦿

In 2018, a small infected cut on my thumb led to septic shock–a catastrophic dysregulated immune response that caused organ failure and DIC–loss of circulation to my hands and feet. I was not expected to survive.

With excellent medical care, tremendous advocacy from my family, and a lot of luck and prayer, I woke up after a week in the ICU to the reality that I had survived against incredible odds, but not without serious consequences.

I became a multiple amputee, losing seven partial fingers and both legs below the knees.

I'm here to share my story to educate others and inspire fellow survivors and individuals within the limb-loss and limb different community to share their own stories. Your voice is your most powerful tool and we can make a difference online and offline just by sharing our experiences. We are the lived experience.

I am now Thriving Beyond the Unimaginable and so are you!

Episode 29 is now live!

I had the pleasure of joining the podcast to share my journey as a sepsis survivor, amputee advocate, speaker, and now author of *Finding Solid Footing: Thriving Beyond the Unimaginable*.

It was such a meaningful conversation about resilience, recovery, advocacy, and finding purpose after life-changing challenges. I'm also incredibly proud that proceeds from *Finding Solid Footing* support the important work of Sepsis Alliance.

A huge thank you for having me as a guest. I’m looking forward to seeing you next week in Washington, DC, at the Unite for Sepsis Symposium and continuing our work to raise awareness about sepsis and support survivors around the world.

I had the honor of being on an episode of this podcast will kill you a few years ago when they educated about sepsis this episode is talking about the importance of diagnosis which is so key to sepsis. I ordered the book and can’t wait to hear the podcast.

An accurate diagnosis can give us so much - a path forward, answers to long-standing questions, much-needed hope. Yet many people wait years to receive an accurate diagnosis, which can take a profound physical and emotional toll. What underlies these missed or incorrect diagnoses, and what can we do about it? In this week’s TPWKY book club episode, health journalist Alexandra Sifferlin joins me to discuss her book The Elusive Body: Doctors, Patients, and the Diagnosis Crisis. Her compassionate and sweeping exploration of this topic takes readers across the US as she connects with patients, doctors, and researchers that are deeply impacted by the diagnosis crisis. Tune in for a fascinating conversation on a subject that has affected so many of us.
