I've been bad about posting for waaaaay too long
So here's a piece I did a while back on lovely , and a glimpse of what we're working on adding ❤️
As you all know, I don't usually recommend sessions that go over 4 hours, because as much as some can handle it, we don't want an immune system dip as the immune system is what is responsible for proper tattoo healing. Also the longer the session, the more the skin is inflamed, and the higher the chances of ink retention issues, or the shading won't come out smooth because of the inflamed/open pores.
However, as long as we make sure to take proper precautions, longer sessions can be done without impacting the healing process or your health (yes, "Tattoo Flu" is a thing).
Here are some of my recommendations during the first week of Tattoo healing to ensure your immune system can handle long sessions:
✅ Eat a nutrient dense meal prior to your Tattoo Session, and during the healing process
✅ Hydrate well by drinking at least 64oz of water, and some electrolytes
✅ Make sure to sleep well the day prior to your Tattoo and while it's healing, meaning more than 6 hours of sleep a day 👀
✅ Try to keep your stress levels low, practice your breathing techniques!
✅ Bring healthy snacks, a protein bar or shake, and something hearty to eat halfway
✅ Take emergen-C or similar for at least the first 3 days after your Tattoo
🚫 Don't drink alcohol for at least 3 days prior and 3 days after, same goes for smoking (and hard drugs obviously)
🚫 Don't do high intensity exercise the day of your Tattoo, and at least for the first 3 days after
🚫 Avoid sun tanning and as much direct sun exposure as possible while healing
🚫 Try to avoid or limit consumption of inflammatory foods such as fried foods, processed sugar, refined carbs, and processed meat.
Of course this is in a perfect world, and the younger you are the more you can get away with, but if you want the highest chances of your Tattoo healing great and staying fresh looking for longer, this is your cheat code 😊❤️
