“THIS OVERLOOKED DRIVING MISTAKE COULD BE AGGRAVATING YOUR LOW-BACK PAIN”
🚗 Your driving position could be aggravating your low-back pain or sciatica without you realizing it.
One thing I commonly look at is where the knees are positioned compared with the hips.
If your seat is too low and your knees are sitting higher than your hips, it can encourage the pelvis to roll backward and the lower back to round.
Now combine that with:
✓ 30–60+ minutes of sitting
✓ Very little movement
✓ Road vibration
✓ An already irritated or injured lower back
For some people with disc problems, sciatica, or mechanical low-back pain, that can be a recipe for continually aggravating their symptoms.
TRY THIS:
✓ Raise the seat so the hips are approximately level with or slightly higher than the knees
✓ Sit back into the seat
✓ Use appropriate lumbar support
✓ Move close enough that you aren't reaching for the pedals or steering wheel
If driving repeatedly causes low-back pain, glute pain, numbness, tingling, or pain traveling down your leg, changing your seat position may help—but it's also important to determine WHY sitting is provoking your symptoms.
At The Spinal Decompression & Chiropractic Center of San Diego, we offer a No-Charge Consultation to help determine what may be causing your symptoms and whether you're a candidate for care.
