🌍Today is World Hepatitis Day🌍
Today is an opportunity to recognize both how far we've come and how much work remains
💉 We have the knowledge and tools to prevent hepatitis B through vaccination, cure hepatitis C, and effectively treat hepatitis B and hepatitis D. Yet millions of people around the world remain undiagnosed, untreated, or without access to the care they need. Too many continue to develop cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer from diseases that can often be prevented or managed.
🩺 This is why universal screening, timely diagnosis, linkage to care, and equitable access to treatment are so important. We must continue to educate healthcare providers, expand testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and hepatitis D, improve surveillance for hepatocellular carcinoma, and accelerate research toward finite cures for hepatitis B and better therapies for hepatitis D.
🤝 On this World Hepatitis Day, let's recommit to breaking down the barriers that prevent people from receiving life-saving care. By working together—patients, providers, researchers, advocates, industry, and policymakers—we can move closer to the WHO goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat.
