As we move into the fall we are looking forward to all of the opportunities to gather with others living with type 1 diabetes in your community. Whether it's a a casual coffee meet-up, lunch with your friend Rufus, or joining us for the annual Breakthrough T1D Walk HYPE party, we hope you will join us and our volunteer hosts for a time of community and connection.

🔎Get your diabetes and mental health questions answered during "Ask the Therapist" with Beth Braun, Ph.D.. Dr. Braun has lived with type 1 diabetes (T1D) for 47 years and is a health psychologist specializing in diabetes management, nutrition, and behavior modification for over 25 years. These virtual sessions for parents and caregivers of children with T1D are designed to tackle some of the hardest elements of living with this disease - both for the children and their caregivers.

📅Join us Tuesday, September 29 at 12 p.m. to learn about how T1D impacts mental health and behaviors. RSVP is required. Sessions occur the last Tuesday of every month on Zoom and will address a different topic each month.

This Why I Walk Wednesday, we're excited to feature Alanna's Hummingbirds! 🎉

Alanna's Hummingbirds joined their first Walk in November 2023, walking in support of Alanna, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in July 2022.

Why does Alanna's Hummingbirds Walk?

Meet Devin! Long-time Breakthrough T1D supporter and volunteer and first-time Rider!

Devin just took on her very first Ride last week in Cascades, WA, and she was honored during the opening dinner as a new Rider. She has lived with T1D for 30 years and recently got involved with Breakthrough T1D and hit the ground running (or in this case, riding) with her involvement. She joined the Walk Committee in 2023 and the very next year agreed to serve as the Mission and Experience Chair for Breakthrough T1D Walk, Los Angeles. She is now beginning her third year of serving in this position. The year after that, she joined the Greater Los Angeles Chapter Board, and now, she has joined our elite group of Riders.

She makes it all look so easy. When we asked her how she does it all, Devin shared: "Living with T1D comes with a lot of challenges, physically and mentally. Preparing for this Ride has shown me that it’s truly incredible what your body is capable of once you set your mind to something, especially with navigating proper fuel and managing blood sugars during these training rides."

💙🏛️Applications for Children's Congress are officially open!

Breakthrough T1D 2027 Children's Congress will be held June 28-July 1, 2027. Youth with T1D who will be between the ages of 4-17 during the event are invited to apply to join us in Washington, D.C., to meet face-to-face with some of the top decision-makers in the U.S. Government.

As participants in Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress, Delegates have a unique and empowering opportunity to help Members of Congress understand what life with T1D is like, while forming lasting bonds with fellow youth who live with this autoimmune disease.
