We hope you are all doing well.

School Bus Safety Reminder — Please STOP for Our Children

You may have noticed our Tribal Officials out in the community monitoring traffic as children are being picked up and dropped off for school. The BPS Transportation Division has recently observed an increase in safety concerns, including speeding and motorists failing to stop when a school bus is stopped.
Our children's safety must come first.
We understand that, in some situations, you may not be traveling directly behind the bus or may be on a different portion of the roadway. However, children may be approaching the bus from areas that are not immediately visible to motorists. A child can enter the roadway unexpectedly, making it extremely important that everyone STOP when a school bus is stopped with its warning signals activated.

Please Remember:
🟡 YELLOW FLASHING LIGHTS: Proceed with caution and prepare to stop.
🔴 RED FLASHING LIGHTS + STOP SIGN: STOP.
When the bus is stopped and the stop sign is extended, please stop and remain stopped.
Maintain at least 10 feet of distance from the bus.
Do not attempt to pass a stopped school bus.
Whether you are approaching from the front, behind, or from another area of the roadway, please STOP when you see the bus stopped with its red lights flashing and stop sign extended.

Even if you do not immediately see a child, please stop. Children may be coming from another direction or may be difficult to see from your vehicle.
We are asking everyone in our community to help protect our children by slowing down, remaining alert, and following school bus safety procedures.
One moment of caution can prevent a serious accident. Please help us keep our children safe.
