The Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley alongside the Native American Health Center and the California Consortia for Urban Indian Health are hosting a regional MMIP summit on October 8th, 2026, in Oakland, CA. The purpose of the summit is to connect directly impacted families, organizers, advocates, services workers and traditional healers to identify how we can work together to protect our relatives.

CCUIH recently brought together youth, Elders, traditional healers, health professionals, and community leaders for our annual Urban Indian Traditional Health Summit: “Honoring Indigenous Wellness: Integrating Traditional Healing and Western Medicine.”

The day was filled with powerful teachings, intergenerational dialogue, traditional foods, community connection, and meaningful conversations about the role of traditional healing in our health and wellness.

From carrying teachings forward and staying grounded in community, to cultivating traditional medicine gardens and exploring the implementation and impact of traditional health practices, the Summit created space to celebrate Indigenous knowledge and envision new pathways for culturally grounded care.

We are deeply grateful to the Elders, healers, youth, speakers, and community members who shared their wisdom, stories, and presence.

A special thank you to the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) for funding this important gathering, and to The California Endowment for generously providing the venue space.

For our California Native Harm Reduction Hub, the heart of the work is always grounded in the lives and stories of our communities members most impacted. Over the past year, our team got to sit down with community members from Urban Indian and Tribal communities throughout the state as they shared stories of drug use, harm reduction, healing, and empowerment. Harm reduction for our Native communities is an act of love, resistance, and prayer, and these stories show the ways harm reduction can be a transformative force for us as Native peoples.
