RestoringVision

RestoringVision Our mission is to empower lives by restoring vision for millions of people in need. We are committed to a future where everyone who needs glasses has them.

RestoringVision is a global nonprofit dedicated to creating equitable access to vision services and eyeglasses for individuals living on less than $2 a day. Our work and vision interventions are at the intersection of global health, education, and economic development. Today, we reach 4 million people a year, with a growth trajectory poised to reach more than 10 million people annually with our vi

sion and glasses delivery programs that transform lives with clear vision. Over 1 billion people have a vision impairment that could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed. 81% or 826 million people suffer from vision impairment due to presbyopia – a common condition that can be easily corrected with a pair of reading glasses. 90% live in impoverished communities without access to vision care. That’s where we come in – and we won’t stop until everyone in the world can see clearly. The lack of access to vision screenings, lack of channels for eyeglass distribution, and the inability for people to pay are significant barriers. For these individuals – a pair of glasses – a solution that has been around for 700 years – restores sight immediately and improves lives. Our unparalleled network of 2,700 NGOs and government agencies, along with our corporate and foundation donors who provide financial support, and the world’s largest optical companies who partner with us to ensure we have quality glasses add up to an all-hands-on-deck approach for advancing our mission of solving the global vision crisis. RestoringVision has reached 25 million people in 147 countries since 2003. Visit www.restoringvision.org to find out how you can partner with us today.

We are proud to announce a new partnership with Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital in India, one of the country’s leading providers of charitable eye care.

Together, we are working to expand access to near vision care and reading glasses for underserved communities across Bihar and beyond.

This partnership helps advance RestoringVision’s mission to empower lives by restoring vision for millions of people in need.

• Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital has become a leading force in delivering high-volume, accessible eye care in rural India.
• Through hospitals, outreach camps, and community-based programs, Akhand Jyoti is helping bring sustainable eye care access to regions where services are often out of reach.
• 80% of the hospital’s sight-restoring surgeries are provided free of charge, helping ensure care reaches people living in low-income communities.

This partnership reflects a shared belief that clear vision should never depend on where someone lives or what they can afford.

🙌 Last week, we had the honor of convening our first‑ever RestoringVision-international NGO partners meeting. It was both a milestone and a beginning.

The global challenges we’re all working to address are growing more complex, and no single organization can meet them alone. At the same time, vision is increasingly recognized as foundational to health, education, and livelihoods—priorities each of our partners advances every day. It felt like the right time to come together, learn from one another, and deepen how we collaborate in this evolving landscape.

🤝 Partnership is truly in RestoringVision’s DNA. For more than 23 years, we’ve relied on trusted partners to help put eyeglasses on faces around the world—and together, we’ve now reached 40 million people: Forty million people who can see their loved ones’ faces clearly. Forty million people who can better earn, learn, and participate fully in their communities.

🌍 A big thank-you to the partners who were able to join us: , , , , , , and one of our newest partners, .to.heart.international We’re deeply grateful for your partnership. We could not do this work without you. Together, we’re on the path to creating a world where everyone, everywhere, has the eyeglasses that they need. 👓

I’m very grateful for people like you who work so that we can have a dignified life, where we can still feel useful and responsible for ourselves. You came to take care of us and provide for us. Thank you so much, I’m eternally grateful.”

For many of us, clear vision is something we can achieve with ease. But for millions of people around the world, it is the difference between earning a living and falling deeper into poverty.

On the 4th day of our week in Mexico for with National Vision and SNDIF we saw over and over what happens when the barriers to clear vision are instantly removed.

Among all public health interventions available, a pair of eyeglasses is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to create lasting impact. And almost two weeks later, we’re still replaying these emotional moments in our head.

Every pair of glasses is more than a tool. It is dignity restored, opportunity regained, and a future brought back into focus.

Partner with us to help provide vision care and eyeglasses to people in need.

He didn’t plan to start a vision program.

But after seeing how many people were living without access to clear near vision, Steven Stern knew he had to act.

Today, through Sight Is A Right, he is helping bring reading glasses and vision care to communities across the Caribbean and Latin America. With support from RestoringVision’s Community Outreach Program, this work is reaching people who might otherwise go without.

A simple pair of reading glasses can change what’s possible in someone’s day. It can mean reading again, working again, or caring for family with confidence.
Today, 826 million people are living with near-vision impairment. For many, the solution is simple and within reach.

Read the full story at the link in our bio and visit Steven at for more info.

For years, Sufryan Abdulahi struggled to read the Qur’an and manage everyday tasks like banking because of declining near vision. Living on a limited income in Ethiopia’s Harari Region, eyeglasses were simply not affordable.

That began to change when vision screening was offered by community health workers trained by Last Mile Health and the Ministry of Health,Ethiopia in his own community. Sufryan received the eyeglasses he needed to read, work, and manage his daily life independently. Today, he can once again read the Qur’an, handle his finances with confidence, and live with greater dignity and self‑reliance.

Since August 2025, a partnership between Last Mile Health and RestoringVision has helped more than 200,000 people across eight regions of Ethiopia access near-vision eyeglasses. Stories like Sufryan’s show how strong public health systems, community health workers, and access to affordable vision care can restore independence, dignity, and opportunity.

For 55-year-old farmer Sufryan Abdulahi, practicing his faith and managing his finances became increasingly difficult without glasses.
