My aunt/sister/friend Barbie was finally liberated from her 9 year cancer journey this week. While we are left with a devastating hole in our hearts, there is relief in knowing she is no longer suffering.

To know Barb really was to love her. A woman who treated hugging like a competitive sport. Someone who stayed deeply enchanted with this world despite all of its flaws. Full of gratitude until the very end.

The birth of her son was the first birth I ever attended (see first IG pic 📸). I was just a teenager and had absolutely no idea what I was doing, so when she asked me to rub her legs for hours, that’s what I did. Somewhere in that room, I caught the bug that would eventually lead me into this work. Even then, she was ushering me toward sacred things.

Over these last few weeks, I rubbed her legs a lot again. Even when she was too tired to ask, she would quietly pull back the sheets to show me a leg when she saw me walk in. Day by day, I helped her labor once more…this time so her earth body could give birth to her spirit body.

What a devastating honor it has been to love her through this threshold.

My sweet Barb, you tilted my axis more than once in this lifetime. Thank you for being one of the great loves of my life. ❤️

There’s something powerful about a room full of providers willing to keep learning. Today, we’re honored to host and at Hatch for a day dedicated to breech birth skills and reclaiming knowledge that should never have been lost.

Breech is a variation of normal. And while breech birth carries important considerations and requires skillful care, it should not automatically become a surgical birth simply because systems stopped teaching providers how to safely attend these births.

Families deserve real informed consent. Providers deserve training. Communities deserve options.

I am so grateful for the birth workers spending their day leaning into this work. This is how we protect physiologic birth! ❤️

Before it gets too late, I want to celebrate the midwives. The ones working beside me, the ones who taught us, and the ones rising into this role.

My sisters answering late-night calls, holding fear and joy all at once, witnessing families being born over and over again.

Most days, this job feels impossibly lucky. To be invited into these tender, powerful moments of becoming never stops feeling like an honor.

So today I’m sending love to our whole lineage. Happy International Day of the Midwife. 🤍

Tiny fist, big story. ✊🏽✨

This sweet babe joined us last Saturday after a labor that asked everything. The kind that makes you wonder if the path will change… and then, somehow, it does. A turn. A deep breath. Feeling someone’s belief in you. And from that place, something fierce and beautiful emerged.

Born at home, held in strength, carried by trust.

That little fist says it all…the same fighting spirit her parent brought to her birth. This is what it looks like when people are supported, when physiology is trusted.

As midwives and birth workers, we witness this again and again. This work is care, but it is also rebellion that dares to return birth to the birthers.

Welcome earthside, little one. You arrived surrounded by courage. 🤍

Firecrackers, drumming, and little dancers under the shadow of the SF skyscrapers tonight.

Watching my girl and her dance crew move through the streets in the Chinese New Year parade filled my heart all the way up. These traditions have traveled oceans and generations, and tonight they were alive in the joy, the costumes, the rhythm of the drums, and the pride in our community.

Feeling so grateful to be part of the beautiful, wide Chinese diaspora and even more grateful to pass these celebrations and roots on to my kiddos.

Midwife perks: occasionally getting to admire an elite-level baby thigh in the hallway. 🥹

I love working in a space where my clients continue coming through for care with other practitioners…today this little nugget was here for cranial sacral therapy and I got a quick visit with one of my favorite families. 💗

Midwifery care is such a special window, but getting to watch these babes grow (and I mean GROW)?! Pure magic. ✨

Oh man, I’m still crying…

From the Bay to the world stage. 🥇

Watching Alysa Liu win gold felt like more than a victory.

She is the daughter of a refugee and an immigrant. And I am the daughter, and granddaughter, of that same story.

This isn’t abstract for me. This is lineage. It’s knowing that everything we build here, every business, every family, every bit of excellence comes from people who crossed oceans, and borders, and the impossible to be here.

And not because they were always easily welcomed. But because they came anyway.

And still we root, we grow, and we raise children who can, quite literally, FLY!!

The Bay is full of stories like this. Alysa’s just happens to be on a podium this week.

But they are our stories too. Get yours, girl!!! 💗
