This is why the work we do through CCI - Community Care Initiative is so important. We have to prepare, support and sustain the caregivers in our community.

What if your healthcare clinic actually felt like it was designed with you in mind?

As part of Our Stories, Our Health, WISE Health SF asked 57 community members to imagine their ideal clinic: what would they want to see, hear, smell and experience?

They envisioned more than healthcare. They wanted clean, comfortable spaces, cultural representation, welcoming staff, privacy, calming environments and resources that support the whole person.

These aren’t just “nice extras.” They help create spaces where people feel safe enough to enter, comfortable enough to stay and respected enough to return.

Community knows what care should feel like. Let’s design with them.

We asked Black women aging with HIV: Do you feel seen, heard and supported by our healthcare system?

Through the Our Stories, Our Health Initiative, WISE Health SF, Facente Consulting, and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation’s HUES Project listened to Black women share their experiences navigating healthcare in San Francisco.

They told us about feeling dismissed, fragmented services, accessibility barriers, and a lack of cultural representation. They also told us what better care looks like:

Culturally responsive providers
Coordinated, accessible care
Black women represented in healthcare spaces
Patient advocates and health navigators
Welcoming environments rooted in dignity

Listening is only the first step. The next is designing systems that respond.

Our stories matter. Our experiences matter. Our health matters.

In our first workshop, we discussed the critical importance of tracking your bowel movements and maintaining digestive health. Nurse Hilda Smith from BABNA explained how constipation can seriously impact your overall health, and how all nine systems in your body are interconnected—when one system becomes sluggish, it affects the others, potentially leading to complications like heart failure and fluid retention. She also shared recommendations for eating regular oatmeal (not instant packets) to help flush your system and get the fiber your body needs, while avoiding excessive sugar and salt. We are here to educate our community caregivers to ensure we are delivering culturally responsive care in our communities. WISE Health SF and BABNA collaborating on behalf of

We teamed up with and to make wellness a little sweeter. To receive a recipe kit, community members simply had to invest in themselves with a blood pressure check or a relaxing massage.

Together, we distributed more than 150 recipe kits filled with everything needed to make homemade jam and biscuits, including buttermilk biscuit mix, fresh strawberries, blueberries, peaches, lemons, sugar, and a mason jar.

A special shout-out to my Links Sister, Nicole Moore, for helping me jar all that sugar! 💚 💼: 🍓:
