Comfortable and healthy installs start at the roots.

1. Match the beads to the roots, not to the extensions. It’s tempting to want to use blonde beads for a blonde install but your extensions will be less detectable when you match the root color.
Can’t decide between 2 colors? Go with the darker option.

2. No over-direction- Over directing those small sections puts more weight load on the hairs that aren’t over directed. All hairs in the sections should be at zero elevation so they can all support and distribute the weight of the extension evenly.
Think of a high ponytail. If you add weight to that ponytail , the over directed hairs won’t feel a thing but the top hairs will. That’s the same idea here.

3. Equal weight- Hair holds hair. The extension you’re installing should always be attached to the amount of hair you’re installing it to. We don’t want to put a heavy extension on just a small section of hair! That wouldn’t be very nice 😆

4. No Tight Tension- there should be a little wiggle room at the attachment. Comfortable installs require a little cushion at the roots. Nothing feels worse than extensions being put in too tight. Sometimes clients ask for them to be put right at the scalp so they can wear them longer, don’t fall for it! It’s not healthy and it doesn’t feel good. Also, it doesn’t buy them that much more time. Regular maintenance and healthy installs are key to success. 🤑

U shaped sections - I know we said four non-negotiables but this one is worth mentioning.

When you take a U-shaped section there’s no corners getting pulled when your client wants to wear their hair up.

At Monti we teach and preach no tight tension, no over direction and equal weight on all methods.

Learning hair extensions is serious, but it should also be fun.

If you don’t get it right away, that’s okay. You won’t be left behind! MONTI educators will slow it down, go over it again, and work through it together until it clicks. That moment when it finally makes sense is our favorite part!

My goal has never been just to teach hair extensions. It’s always been about teaching something truly special.

Something that can create positive change, not only in my students’ lives, but in their clients’ lives too.

When stylists learn a skill that positively impacts their clients that positivity carries into the chair and out into the world.

I have seen firsthand how extensions are so much more than hair. They help clients feel beautiful again, give them their groove back and in some cases see them through a hard time, feeling a little bit more like themselves. Hair is a powerful confidence booster!

That ripple effect is what this has always been about for me.

I am passionate about extensions. I am passionate about teaching. I can’t wait to teach you too!
