I am pausing today… 🥰
Thank you the grandparents The Grandparent’s Club 🙏🏻
“How to Be a Grandparent…”
How to be a grandparent is not written in books,
nor taught in schools,
nor measured by rules.
It is learned in whispers,
in quiet moments,
in hands held too tightly,
and hearts that never let go.
To be a grandparent is to know
that love does not run out.
That patience grows
even when your knees ache
and your voice trembles.
It is learning to sit quietly
while little feet run circles around your heart,
to let them explore the world
without fear,
and to cheer for every stumble
as much as every triumph.
It is holding them close
when storms pass,
and letting them go
so they may grow.
It is laughing until your sides ache,
and crying when life reminds you
that time is fleeting,
that children do not stay small forever,
that hands once tiny
will one day stretch far away.
To be a grandparent is to be a storyteller,
to pass down pieces of yourself
that live on in giggles,
in bedtime prayers,
in whispered secrets.
It is showing them the world—
its beauty, its wonder, its hidden corners—
and trusting they will carry it with them
in their hearts,
even when you are not there.
It is teaching without preaching,
guiding without forcing,
loving without expectation,
giving without keeping score.
It is seeing the world through their eyes,
and remembering the wonder you once knew,
the awe you thought was gone,
and realizing it never left—it just waited
for tiny hands to remind you.
To be a grandparent is to be a safe place
in a rushing world,
a harbor in the tide of growing up,
a light that shines
even when the world grows dark.
It is knowing that your arms are bridges,
your heart is a harbor,
your love is a language
they will carry long after you are gone.
It is choosing every day
to be gentle,
to be patient,
to be present,
because life will not pause for us,
but we can pause for them.
To be a grandparent is to know joy
in sticky fingers,
in sleepy hugs,
in laughter that echoes
through a home filled with life.
It is to know sorrow too,
for the moments you cannot hold,
for the years that fly too fast,
for the children who grow
and leave your arms empty
before you are ready.
But mostly, it is love—
steady, patient, unconditional,
a love that asks nothing in return,
a love that is enough,
a love that endures.
And if you can do all that—
hold, teach, guide, and love—
then you are more than a grandparent.
You are a blessing,
a witness to the miracle of life,
a keeper of hearts,
a gentle hand in a world that moves too fast.
How to be a grandparent is simple:
love deeply,
hold tightly,
laugh often,
and above all,
be there.
