After surgery, it is common to experience fluid accumulation in the surgical area. This fluid is known as seroma.
What is a Seroma?
A seroma is a collection of clear, watery fluid that forms under the skin after surgery. It is typically found near the incision site.
Seromas occur when:
• Lymphatic vessels are damaged during surgery
• There is a large space left after tissue removal
• The body produces too much fluid in the healing process
Seromas may cause:
• Swelling
• A soft, puffy lump under the skin
• Pain or discomfort
