Did You Know?

Did you know your gut has its own nervous system? It is called the enteric nervous system, and it contains hundreds of millions of neurons, more than are found in your spinal cord. Scientists often call it the body's “second brain” because it can manage digestion largely on its own, without direct instructions from your brain.

This second brain stays in constant contact with your brain through the vagus nerve, which is part of why gut health can influence mood and stress levels. Taking care of your digestive health may support both your body and your mind.

Alcohol can affect more than just your mood. Over time, long-term alcohol use can impact the brain, heart, liver, and digestive system, increasing the risk of serious health conditions.

Knowing the risks is the first step toward making informed choices and taking care of your body. Choosing wellness is choosing to care for yourself, your community, and future generations.

If you or someone you know is struggling, remember that help is always within reach. Call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline anytime, 24/7. You don't have to face difficult moments alone.
