If you winterized your Hot Spring spa for the colder months, spring is the perfect time to bring it back to life and get ready for relaxing soaks again. Starting your spa up properly after winter helps protect the equipment, ensures clean water, and gets everything running smoothly for the season ahead.
Here’s a simple checklist to help you get started:
✅ 1. Reinstall Your Drain Caps & Plugs
Before filling your spa, make sure all drain caps and winterizing plugs that were removed during shutdown are securely reinstalled. Double-check pump unions and fittings to ensure everything is tight.
✅ 2. Reinstall Filters
If you removed your filters during winterization, reinstall them now. This is also a great time to start the season with freshly cleaned filters for the best water circulation.
✅ 3. Fill Your Spa Properly
Place your garden hose in the filter compartment and begin filling the spa. Filling through the filter area helps reduce the chance of air getting trapped in the plumbing.
✅ 4. Power On Your Spa
Once the spa is full to the proper level, turn the power back on at the breaker. Your spa should begin its startup and circulation cycle automatically.
✅ 5. Check for Leaks
As the pumps begin to run, take a few minutes to look around the equipment area and plumbing connections to ensure there are no leaks from fittings or unions that were loosened during winterization.
✅ 6. Test & Balance the Water
Use a water test kit or test strips to check your pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels. Adjust as needed so your water is clean, safe, and comfortable.
