As Mimi Mateo begins her well-earned retirement, we’re celebrating the care, leadership and generosity she brought to TrueCare. 💚

Southern California really turned up the heat this week. 🥵☀️

TrueCare nurse practitioner Alejandra Cabral shares a few simple ways to stay safe. Drink water before you feel thirsty, limit time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, dress for the heat and take breaks in shade or air conditioning. 💧🌳

Know the signs of heat exhaustion. Heavy sweating, dizziness, headache, nausea and weakness can signal heat exhaustion. Move to a cooler place, loosen clothing and sip water. Seek medical help if symptoms worsen or last longer than an hour.

Confusion, fainting or a very high body temperature can signal heat stroke. Call 911 immediately.

Breastfeeding can offer nourishment and connection, but families should not have to figure it out alone. 💚

For Breastfeeding Awareness Month, TrueCare WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator Kim Speckhahn joined The Localist SD with Stephanie Lehman, Ph.D., of UC Health Milk Bank to discuss human milk, donor milk and resources for local families.

TrueCare WIC offers breastfeeding education, lactation support and practical guidance to help families make informed feeding decisions.
