Learning to use ultrasound takes practice and someone to turn to with questions.

In Guyana, 19Labs, EchoNous and the Ministry of Health - Guyana developed training that combined hands-on assignments with access to specialists through GALE. EchoNous led the introduction to obstetric imaging.

This Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month, we’re recognizing the people teaching these skills and the rural health teams putting time into learning them for their communities.

For a health centre in a remote Guyanese community, access depends on more than one connection.

Through Guyana’s expanding network of approximately 130 telemedicine sites, patients in remote communities can reach clinicians elsewhere in the health system. 19Labs has worked with Guyana’s Ministry of Health to help build and scale that network.

GALE | Force adds another connection: long-range, two-way medical drone infrastructure. Medicines and essential supplies can travel to hinterland clinics, while diagnostic samples can travel back toward laboratories and specialist care.

The June 15 delivery to Moraikobai Health Centre is one example of how those capabilities are beginning to come together.

A recent Caribbean AI Association analysis places this work within Guyana’s wider effort to connect telemedicine, logistics, diagnostics and predictive planning across its health system.

We are proud to support this work with Guyana’s Ministry of Health and IDB Lab.

“A lifeline for my daughter.”

That is how Martina describes the teleconsultation that helped Yeily get answers in Santa MarĂa Ozolotepec, Oaxaca.

Remote specialist support and an ultrasound helped identify a large cyst on Yeily’s right o***y. She received surgery and follow-up care. In the video, Martina shares that Yeily is doing well and recovering.

We’re resharing their story for Telehealth Awareness Week because it shows the full path connected care must support: local access, diagnosis, specialist guidance and treatment.

Capturing an ECG in a remote clinic is only the first step. The reading still has to reach the right clinician and lead to the right follow-up.

With ECG technology from our partner QT Medical integrated into GALE, frontline teams can capture cardiac data locally, connect with remote clinicians for review, and escalate when follow-up is needed.

That helps close the gaps between local assessment, clinical review, and the next step for the patient.

This World Patient Safety Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) is focusing on safe care for noncommunicable diseases. For cardiovascular and other long-term conditions, safer care means fewer missed signals and fewer breaks in continuity.

Some rural communities need a new clinic. Others need a reliable local place to connect with the healthcare network already serving the region.

A GALE-enabled kiosk is one way to create that access point. It provides a private setting for virtual visits and connected diagnostic exams, while clinicians participate from elsewhere.

As states implement Rural Health Transformation plans, the physical format should follow the community and the care workflow. In some locations, that may be a fixed kiosk. In others, a private room, compact cart or portable kit may make more sense.

The goal is not to purchase a particular enclosure. It is to create a dependable local connection to care without recreating a fully staffed clinic at every site.

Listening matters. So does what happens next.

Changing the narrative on su***de starts with making it safer to talk openly, without shame or judgment. It also means making sure people can find support when they are ready to ask for it.

That next step can be especially difficult in rural and underserved communities, where services may be far away, local options limited and privacy a real concern.

On World Su***de Prevention Day, we recognize everyone working to make both conversation and support easier to find.

School-based telehealth has to work for the people using it every day.

School staff need a manageable process. Students need access to the right clinicians. Healthcare partners need a reliable way to handle referrals and follow-up.

GALE brings virtual visits and connected exam tools into one consistent setup, helping health systems support more schools with limited clinical capacity.

As states implement Rural Health Transformation plans, the opportunity is to take that model beyond individual pilot sites and build school-based access across entire districts.

🌍 Connecting Communities for Education: Expanding Knowledge Across the Care Continuum

to six months of continued learning through the Guyana National Telemedicine Program.

From maternal and newborn care, HIV and hepatitis B, to autism, diabetes, polio, telemedicine practice, and more, the March–August Team Meetings connected Community Health Workers and point-of-care teams with specialists across a wide range of healthcare needs. The 19Labs team also used these sessions to share GALE updates and practical workflow guidance.

For healthcare workers serving Guyana’s hinterland communities, that means regular access to people and information that can support the care they provide locally. GALE helps make those connections possible through the same telemedicine infrastructure already serving their communities.

Thank you to the Ministry of Health - Guyana, our speakers, and everyone who continues to participate and share their expertise. 🇬🇾🩵

What makes a telemedicine RFQ useful in practice?

A precise equipment list may still miss the questions that determine whether a program can be deployed, adopted, managed, and expanded.

Our on-demand webinar, How to Write a Telemedicine RFQ: Lessons from Successful Real-World Deployments, covers seven areas procurement teams should evaluate, from diagnostic workflows and connectivity to training, remote management, cybersecurity, commercial alignment, and AI.

Watch the webinar, use the editable RFQ template, and download the slides:
