Where Has the River Stopped Flowing in You?

Where has the river stopped flowing in you?

This is the question that has stayed with me since I heard a Native woman on the radio speaking about the restoration of the Eel River here in Northern California. Two dams removed. Nearly 300 miles of habitat opening again. Salmon returning home after generations.

She wasn't only speaking about fish. She was speaking about what becomes possible when a river that has been restrained for generations is allowed to flow freely again.

And I began thinking about our body-temples. The rivers within us. Breath and blood. Grief, desire, pleasure, creativity, life force.

Where did you learn to hold? What truth is still waiting behind your teeth? What part of your aliveness did you put away because, at one time, it felt safer not to feel so much?

The gates do not need to be forced. Sometimes restoration begins with one fuller breath, one hand upon the heart, tears finally allowed to come, or one drop of holy oil touching the skin with intention.

The river remembers the way home. And somewhere within us, so do we.

The Masculine That Can Receive Love

The Masculine That Can Receive Love

On Father’s Day, I called my father.

When he answered, something in me softened.

I wished him a happy Father’s Day and told him I wanted him to know that he is loved and appreciated. I told him I am grateful for my life, and for the life that came through him. Then I told him I love him.

I didn’t say it out of obligation, or because it was the right thing to say on Father’s Day. I said it because I meant it.

And what stayed with me was the tenderness of it.

In that moment, everything was suddenly simple. Nothing to fix, explain, or defend.

Just love moving quietly between a father and a son.

What moved me most was not only that I was able to say I love you, but that I felt him receive it.

It made me think about how much healing there is in the masculine not only learning to love, but learning to receive love. To let love land. To not turn away from it, shrink it, joke it away, harden against it, or hide behind old protections.

Just to receive.

A son saying, I love you. A father letting it in. A man allowing tenderness to have a place.

This feels like part of the remembrance and wholing of the Sacred Masculine. Not as an ideal. Not as performance. Not as dominance, perfection, or invulnerability, but as presence. Breath. Tenderness. The courage to feel. The strength to return.

This is why I created Temple of Return.
