The Crest and Oral-B Promising Researcher Award provides $5,000 to a promising researcher focused on preventive dentistry. Eligible candidates may be involved in basic, translational or clinical research. Award funds will enable the winning candidate to attend one or more scientific conferences to further their knowledge or skills or to present findings. Award application period opens June 22 and closes September 18.

The Dr. David Whiston Leadership Award provides $5,000 to cover the costs associated with attending a leadership program approved by the ADAF that will enhance the recipient’s leadership skills, professional development, and ability to contribute meaningfully to dentistry and the communities they serve. The ABCs of AAOM: B is for Backgrounds
Because of the wide scope of oral medicine, AAOM has members with a variety of backgrounds. The majority have completed a formal residency training in oral medicine. Some work in a hospital setting, some in academia, and some are in private practice. Some members who have not completed oral medicine residency are certified as Academic Fellows of AAOM. The Academic Fellowship is a highly respected credential for practitioners. Fellowship examination is given at annual conference every year, and the certificate is presented at the presidential banquet during the annual conference. https://www.aaom.com/

Advocacy and Access to Care: challenges in access and coverage persist due to the fragmentation between medicine and dentistry in our healthcare system. Many oral medicine services, though medically necessary, fall outside traditional coverage parameters, limiting patients’ access to essential care. To address these barriers, the AAOM works closely with the ADA, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other governing entities to ensure coverage for necessary oral medicine services. https://www.aaom.com/
