Stevens Center Sanford

Stevens Center Sanford Our goal is to help such individuals be respected and active participants in their community.

Stevens Center is a non-profit organization that empowers individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through programs that promote independence, inclusion, and community engagement. The Stevens Center focuses on providing support to individuals of all ages who have a developmental disability--a significant disability beginning before age 22 (the 'developmental years' of a person'

s life) and that require specialized supports. The Stevens Center is founded on Jane Stevens' donation of 16 acres, where she desired a facility to be built "where individuals with disabilities are treated as first class citizens."

We continue to receive requests to rent our facility for weddings, parties, showers, and other private events. While we appreciate the interest in our space, a few years ago Stevens Center made a deliberate decision to focus the use of our facility on its intended purpose: creating opportunities, services, and community for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Our facility is more than a building. It is a place where people with disabilities are treated like first-class citizens, where they belong, are valued, and have opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with their community.

Every room in this building has the potential to create opportunities, foster independence, and build community for the people we support, and that is how we intend to use it.

Because of that commitment, we do not rent our space for general private events. However, we are pleased to make our facility available at a reduced cost for disability-related gatherings, celebrations, support groups, trainings, and events serving children and adults with disabilities and their families. This may include birthday parties, milestone celebrations, or other meaningful occasions for individuals with disabilities who may have difficulty finding accessible and welcoming venues.

If you are interested in hosting an event, training or celebration that focuses on those we support, we encourage you to contact Krystle Ragland at [email protected] to discuss availability and options.

Thank you for helping us preserve this space as a place where individuals with disabilities are welcomed, celebrated, and supported every day.

We have been working behind the scenes on something special, and we’re finally ready to share it.

Stevens Center is now enrolling for Ready, Set, Grow, our new after-school enrichment program for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, launching this fall at our main campus located at 1576 Kelly Drive in Sanford.

This program was created with intention. As Stevens Center continues to grow, we remain focused on developing opportunities that align with who we are and who we serve. Ready, Set, Grow is designed to provide a supportive environment where children can build independence, social skills, confidence, and meaningful connections after the school day ends.

We also recognize the value of inclusive peer learning and natural friendships. A very limited number of spots will be available for typically developing peers, while ensuring the program remains centered on the needs of children with disabilities.

✅ 1915(i) Accepted
✅ CAP/C Accepted
✅ Private Pay Available

⚠️ This is a pilot program with very limited enrollment, and spots are expected to fill quickly.

To discuss Fall enrollment opportunities, contact:

Access and Outreach Manager

And if you think this announcement is exciting, stay tuned. We have even more opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the works, and we can’t wait to share what’s next.

That’s a wrap on Week 2!

Week 2 was filled with hands-on learning, new experiences, and plenty of smiles across both of our camp groups.

Our Explorers began the week at the pool before welcoming Priority Farms, who brought baby chicks and alpaca fleece. Campers also learned how yarn is made. Later in the week, Pint Sized Pastures visited with several baby bunnies. The week wouldn’t be complete without Story Time with Abby and Music with Riley. Thank you both for sharing your time and talents with our campers.

Our Adventurers also enjoyed time at the pool and visited the Pollinator Garden at the NC Cooperative Extension. We extend a special thank you to Ms. Amanda and her volunteers for creating such an engaging and educational experience. Field trips like these would not be possible without the continued support of Crossroads Ministries and the use of their vans. Thank you for helping make these opportunities accessible. Throughout the week, campers enjoyed Music with Torri on Wednesday and Thursday, and on Friday, Mr. Donald joined us to share his knowledge of agriculture. We ended the week on a high note with karaoke.

We are deeply grateful for our dedicated camp staff, whose planning, energy, and commitment make Happy Day Camp possible each day. We also appreciate the support of our community partners and all those who have hosted us or welcomed us onsite, helping to enrich our program through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

Finally, thank you to everyone who contributed to our wishlist. We have now served 70 campers so far this summer, and your generosity continues to make this work possible.

What a beautiful evening for our June First Friday! We enjoyed delicious hamburgers and hot dogs, friendly games of corn hole, and plenty of indoor and outdoor fun. We always enjoy connecting with the people we serve, families, staff, and community members.

A special thank you to Pfizer for their continued support of Stevens Center and for helping make events like this possible. We are so appreciative of our community partners who invest in creating opportunities for connection, recreation, and meaningful experiences.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We loved spending the evening together and look forward to seeing you at the next First Friday. If you attended, share your favorite photos in the comments below. We love to see all of your smiling faces!

Week 1 of Happy Day Camp is complete ☀️

What a wonderful start to the summer filled with connection, learning, and fun.

Our Explorers enjoyed visits from the Sanford Fire Department and the Sanford Police Department, along with Story Time with Abby and Music with Riley.

Our Adventurers visited the Broadway Zoological Park, enjoyed a visit from Holly’s Nest, and participated in music with Tori.

We also want to extend our sincere thanks to Parks & Recreation and our favorite lifeguard Stacie for helping make pool days safe, welcoming, and fun.

We are especially grateful for the strong community partners who show up for our individuals and help make experiences like this possible.

Most importantly, our staff and individuals are at the heart of everything we do. Their energy, growth, and joy are what make Happy Day Camp so special.

Here’s to an amazing summer ahead 💛
