A strong core matters but not for the reason you might think. 💪 A meta-analysis looking at 29 studies and 956 athletes found that core training significantly improved foundational athletic abilities like balance and sustained trunk stability.
But core work alone didn’t significantly improve sport-specific performance like speed, power, agility, throwing velocity, or technical skill.
The takeaway? Core training builds the foundation. Sport-specific training builds the performance.
A strong, stable trunk gives your body a better platform to transfer force and maintain control, but you still have to train the movements, speeds, and skills your sport demands.
Build the foundation. Then train for what you want to do with it. 👊
