Ego can be the enemy of love because ego is obsessed with protection.
It wants control.
It wants certainty.
It wants to be right.
It wants to avoid rejection, grief, vulnerability, and anything that threatens the identity you’ve built.
That is part of why the dark night of the soul can feel so brutal.
The old version of you starts falling apart, and the ego fights to keep it alive.
But love asks for something different.
Love asks you to soften.
To surrender.
To tell the truth.
To release what no longer fits.
To meet the parts of yourself you’ve been trying to outrun.
The dark night is not always about becoming someone new.
Sometimes it is about stripping away everything that kept you from loving yourself, others, and your life fully.
The way through is not more control.
It is deeper honesty, deeper presence, and deeper love.
