There's a moment at the end of The Wizard of Oz that I have always loved.

Dorothy has traveled all that way looking for someone to help her get home.

Only to discover:

She had the power all along.

And she wasn't the only one.

The Scarecrow went searching for a brain—yet spent the journey thinking.
The Tin Man wanted a heart—yet loved deeply.
The Lion wanted courage—yet acted courageously when it mattered.

Each was searching for something they already possessed.

Maybe we are, too.

We spend so much of our lives trying to become more confident, more capable, more worthy, more certain.

What if the deeper work isn't becoming?

What if it's remembering?

Remembering your voice.
Your knowing.
Your capacity to choose.
Your agency.

I call it The Great Remembering.

Sometimes we travel an extraordinary distance only to discover that what we were searching for was with us all along.

What have YOU been rehearsing?

As a dancer, I spent years rehearsing choreography. You repeat a movement again and again until one day, you no longer have to think about it. The body knows. It becomes second nature.

Lately, I've been thinking about how we rehearse our lives in much the same way.

We rehearse thoughts.
We rehearse fears.
We rehearse expectations.
We rehearse the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what is possible.

And with enough repetition, they too can become second nature.

But here's the beautiful part — we can change the choreography.

We can notice what we've been practicing without realizing it. Question what we no longer want to carry. And begin rehearsing something new.

A new thought.
A new response.
A new possibility.

So this Friday, perhaps simply ask yourself: What have I been rehearsing?

And more importantly — is it something I want to become second nature?
