Early one morning, high up in a nest in a palm tree, a young juvenile great horned owl observes me, while I observe them. Owl medicine is so strong and beautiful, to be in their presence as a student of life is so humbling for me and to have them come be a teacher and guide. They really see into our soul! There is no hiding or illusion.

Bluebird Medicine and Mother Tree
A sign of hope, happiness and renewal.

A couple of days ago, I was walking by the lake and came to sit within an old medicine tree that has become one of my special places. A beautiful bluebird came to sit on a branch beside me and together we sat in the glow of the late afternoon sun and cooled our wings with the breath of a gentle wind. Here in this place I come to pray, to share, to receive the medicine intended for me on my journey. I’ve buried deceased lizards within her arms of cradle like branches and covered them softly with her fallen leaves. I’ve cried as she held me through my storms, I’ve told her my secrets, laughed out loud as I sat upon her swing made of rope and aged wood. I’ve read her my poems and stories imagined from my tireless mind and mostly I’ve sat and looked out upon the glistening golden fields of tall grasses and listened as she gave my heart reason to pause and receive the goodness that has arisen from within her spirit. She is my mother tree. I honor her, giving thanks for all of her wisdom and blessings this day! 🙏💚🌳🪶

A birdbath, a gathering place for the wild ones, a place to drink, to bathe and for me a place to reflect, to enjoy all that comes to visit. For three days now, a bold wild snail has been visiting and taking a cooling dip in the water. He’s perfectly happy meandering along, not going deep but caressing the edge as we can often do in life. Have you ever had a moment where everything looks calm on the surface but underneath, something else is going on? We are patrolling our own emotions, keeping things on the surface where we can see them rather than taking a deep dive below the surface to explore and sometimes release that which we no longer need to hold on to. The snail in no rush to leave this tranquil place, slowly disappears into the musty sage growing along side. He likes to be with the wise plants, spreading wisdom to those who listen, a forever student seeking to learn and grow.
Snails in water are symbols adaptability and the connection between the physical and spiritual realms. They speak to the cycles of life, growth and transformation. We cannot help but be drawn in by the spiral encompassing of the shell which offers a representation of the journey of life, illuminating the importance of embracing change and transformation.

Cormorant
Growth only comes to those who are willing to take on challenges. Venture into the unknown…
Lost in thought, I began remembering the cormorants I have sat with on the beach as their shaking bodies would rattle so hard whilst they inhaled their last breath. They would linger for a moment, like a violin playing its last note, that last exhale wishing it could be for one moment longer as it would trail off gently with the wind. My heart would ache with a feeling of sadness, I felt empty in those moments as that precious connection to another, now gone. I’d watched life slip away and tears would follow as I was left to sit in the stillness, no matter seagulls or pelicans flying overhead or strangers passing me by, I would feel alone in those moments. The cormorant today brought messages of his ancestors, his elders whom had come before. He was healthy, well fed and we sat together basking in the late afternoon sun, the ocean lapping up beside me as I let my emotions lead the way forward and resolve into peace. For a moment I caught glimpses of those bird spirits I had helped carry forward and as I felt their energy move through me, I made an offering of to***co and spoke their names. Honoring their spirits, I let go, slipping into a feeling of peace and knowing in my heart a connection to the sacred had taken place.

Hawk the Hunter
Sitting out by the orchard today, my husband and I were startled by a noise. A young Cooper’s hawk had fallen from the sky with its prey, a sparrow and they’d come to rest with a thud upon some dried leaves which lay decaying across the orchard floor. The sparrow appeared to be a fighter and escaped to a natural hiding place, a pile of broken branches woven with a blanket of leaves, where it dove in and disappeared. I could hear it crying for a few minutes and then there was silence. As I stayed close, praying he was safe, I saw him come flying out of his hiding place and take flight, appearing strong and none the worse for his experience. 🪶

I love daffodils! 💛
Seeing them on my hike yesterday took me back to my childhood, where to my delight after a long cold winter, they would gather as the sounds of spring came calling. Rising up in our garden, there they were peeking out beneath the curtain of leaves of my favorite willow tree and yet more to be found, a glorious sea of yellow sweeping the earth like a blanket of sunshine greeting us in the surrounding nature. It always brought a reminder that good days lay ahead. 🌼🌼🌼
