Mindful Eating Institute A mindful approach to emotional eating and weight management ~ rooted in positive psychology and self-compassion research

Mindful Eating Institute through its founder, Petra Beumer, offers a counseling program, which addresses emotional overeating and weight issues. The treatment model represents a mindful approach to weight loss and emotional eating. It is deeply rooted in positive psychology principles as well as mindfulness and self-compassion research. In her work Petra incorporates cognitive-behavioral therapy w

ith mindfulness meditation, journaling and weekly self-care practices. Clients explore the triggers that lead to emotional eating and discover the tools and strategies for establishing a healthy and relaxed relationship with food. Petra supports them with freeing themselves from this cycle, and assists with creating new healthy self-care practices. The therapeutic goal is to replace the powerful ritual of "eating instead of feeling" over time. Petra received her master's degree in clinical psychology at the University of Hamburg/Germany and has worked as a counselor and health educator for over 20 years. Her passion is to help her clients be at peace with their body and to have a healthy and relaxed relationship with food. Clients are being guided to let go of food as a mood regulator, and learn to implement new emotional self-care strategies. Her "prescription" for wellness is: To love yourself deeply, to honor your energy levels and boundaries, to speak your truth from the heart, to stand in your own light and to be YOU - unapologetically. Petra enjoys offering her counseling sessions remotely via Zoom, or in-person in Santa Barbara.

Many people silently struggle with emotional eating, body image concerns, and the exhausting mental noise around food.

From the outside, they often appear to have it all together. Internally, however, they may feel overwhelmed, disconnected from their bodies, or stuck in cycles of stress eating, guilt, and self-criticism.

At The Mindful Eating Institute, I help individuals develop a more peaceful and compassionate relationship with food, body, and self-care.

Healing does not begin with punishment or perfectionism.

It begins with awareness.
With self-compassion.
With learning to slow down and listen inward again.

Over time, food no longer takes up so much emotional and mental space.

And that changes everything.

You do not have to navigate this alone.

A quiet moment to pause

Hi, I’ve been thinking about something I often say in sessions: Change doesn’t usually happen in big, dramatic moments. It happens in the quiet, almost unremarkable ones. The pause before reaching for something. The moment you notice what you’re feeling without immediately trying to change it....
