Buckles & Barrels for Bailey 2026! So surreal getting to have a banner and seeing the Legacy in the warm up pen. 🤎

This was my second year sponsoring this race, I look forward to it all year long, but this year I felt extra professional. 🥹

Endless thank yous to every person who has trusted me with their horses (or dogs), supported Legacy, shared my name, booked a session, or cheered me on along the way. Getting to support an event I love while also doing what I love (keeping these equine athletes feeling and performing their best) is pretty dang special.

And of course, Halo got the full Legacy treatment all weekend. 😉⚡️

𝙁𝙡𝙮 𝙈𝙖𝙨𝙠𝙨 𝙒𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙃𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜

A simple tip that not everyone may be aware of: put a fly mask on your horse every single time you haul them.

Hauling down the road at 65+ mph (or 55 if you’re in CA), there is going to be a LOT of air moving through those drop-down windows. That air can fling shavings and hay around, and one little piece can end up poking your horse right in the eye.

Your horse can also bump its eye on a hay bag, catch it on something inside the trailer, or have a rock or other debris from the road fly in and hit them just right.

And let me tell you… eye injuries are THE WORST. They aren’t easily fixed, they can become a major deal very quickly, and they’re one of those things that are so much easier to prevent than deal with afterward.

A fly mask is a simple layer of protection for something that is incredibly important and incredibly vulnerable.

So put the fly mask on while you haul. It takes two seconds and could potentially save you a whole lot of trouble.

And for all things holy, keep the bars on your trailer up and your screens intact. Do not allow your horse to have its entire neck hanging out of the window while hauling down the interstate.

There are plenty of things we can’t control when we’re hauling our horses down the road.

Lungs 🫁 The most asked for topic on my page. While most want to know what meds I’ve used on my mares, no one has dove deep in the signs of early breathing issues. While a BAL can pin point asthma, inflammatory airway disease, and whether or not your horse is a confirmed bleeder. While an allergy panel can tell you what they could be allergic to. While scoping them can show you what their upper airways look like… There is MUCH more to it.

Diaphragm muscle 💪🏼 This muscle hugs your lungs. A happy diaphragm allows the lungs to expand and take those big deep breaths. A contracted diaphragm causes short fast breaths. This muscle starts at their girth and ends up by their lower lumbar. You have a cinchy horse but have exhausted ulcer meds? You most likely have a mad diaphragm muscle. This muscle ties into your psoas muscle. Your psoas is a huge key component to hind end range of motion. Restriction of your diaphragm muscle can cause short strides in the front end, which then causes restrictions in your psoas, leading to short strides in the hind end. Your horses ability to breathe controls much more than you think.

🚩Short stride
🚩Cinchy
🚩Sore back
🚩Stiffness
🚩Can’t catch their breath

My mare for example has asthma. I know when she’s struggling to breathe just by how short her stride is in the front end. She won’t want to walk freely on a loose rein. She will have a short choppy trot, and would rather lope. When this is ignored, over the next few days she will get cinchy and has a hard time recovering after a work out. Anyone with asthma will tell you that their chest hurts and how sore they can be from not being able to breathe.

So while pharmaceuticals are a big help with an athlete’s lungs, so are knowing early signs that your horse is uncomfortable. That is an individual feel! Not one horse is the same. I’m always willing to help where I can but when you don’t know your horse, or aren’t willing to do the vet work, my hands are tied.

So next question, how do you help a restricted diaphragm? Well, my Acuscope/Myopulse can help with releasing tension and fascia that might be causing this. If you can find an osteopath, they are amazing when it comes to helping a restricted diaphragm. Knowing your horses lungs with vet work! Huge key 🔑 factor to keeping the diaphragm happy.

A huge congratulations to Ava & Cash on earning their first buckle together! What makes it even more special is that this incredible horse is 25 years young and proving that age is just a number with the right care, conditioning, and maintenance program.
