Blessing for the Brokenhearted

“There is no remedy for love but to love more.”
—Henry David Thoreau

Let us agree
for now
that we will not say
the breaking
makes us stronger
or that it is better
to have this pain
than to have done
without this love.

Let us promise
we will not
tell ourselves
time will heal
the wound,
when every day
our waking
opens it anew.

Perhaps for now
it can be enough
to simply marvel
at the mystery
of how a heart
so broken
can go on beating,
as if it were made
for precisely this—

as if it knows
the only cure for love
is more of it,

as if it sees
the heart’s sole remedy
for breaking
is to love still,

as if it trusts
that its own
persistent pulse
is the rhythm
of a blessing
we cannot
begin to fathom
but will save us
nonetheless.

📸: scenes from the most colorful, romantic Valentine’s weekend, despite despite despite 💔

Holding both:
🌼 the gratitude and the grief
🌼 the bright flowers and gray skies
🌼 sunshine and raging storms
🌼 being alone while surrounded by love (not to mention galentines galore)

💘 Somehow still in love with this heartbreakingly beautiful life

Wow, was writing this an edge! I am excited and grateful to finally share my first piece for , in which I share about my struggles with codependency and the ways yoga has empowered me with another choice (limitless possibilities, really). And, so much came up for me when shining a light on something so personal. Here’s what I learned in the process:

First challenge (draft #1): avistara (brevity)

Limiting something so vulnerable to 500 words or less—but, with my writing buddy as my witness, I did it!

Second challenge (draft #2): darshan (seeing and being seen)

Needing to dig deeper, rather than hiding behind yoga philosophy and theory, to actually let people into my story (eek, so uncomfortable! Especially to a Scorpio rising like me 🦂)

Third challenge (final draft): aparigraha (non-attachment)

Letting go of the outcome; surrendering all the other ways I could have tackled this tender topic; allowing done to be better than perfect; trusting

🙏 Thank you for the opportunity, along with your patience, wisdom, and support.

🧐 Take a closer look at my writing process over on Substack, where I share more about the evolution of this story—plus what I left out.
