Ayurvedic Doctor Manish Chandra offers a simple “hack” to reduce inflammation — fasting for 16-20 hours every day. This can help reset the digestive system and reduce toxic buildup (Ama) in the body.

In Ayurveda, Summer is the season of Pitta - the elements of Fire and Water. 🔥💧

We can be prone to overheating, irritability, anger, excessive emotion, and skin rashes and burns.

This is why we want to emphasize cooking, alkaline foods during this time.
- berries and fruits
- vegetables
- whole grains
- wild-caught seafood
- coconut milk and water

These will help us to stay hydrated and balanced during times of high heat.

Enjoy the warmer weather!

Fruits & Smoothies have become popular for breakfast, but Ayurveda teaches that we should opt for a warm, gently spiced meal in the morning to cleanse the digestive tract and prepare our bodies for a larger meal at lunch.

Fruits and smoothies are generally cold in nature, which can hinder digestion. The mornings are usually cooler, and our digestive fire isn’t as strong as mid day. Therefore we should limit these types of foods to moments of warmth and energy during the day, and never eat fruits right after a meal as they can ferment and cause digestive upset.

Listening to the Ayurvedic biological clock, our digestive fire is strongest when the sun is also at its peak. This is the perfect time to have your largest and heaviest meal of the day because it will likely be much easier to digest.

Most Americans have their largest meal at dinner, but this can have negative impacts such as accumulating ama (or toxins), interrupting sleep, and causing stress on the body when it is meant to be relaxing and recovering.

Instead, a meal plan that follows natural rhythms would be a fiber rich, small to medium sized breakfast + large protein and carb rich lunch + fruit & nut snack + small, warm, easy to digest dinner by 7pm.

Try it and see how you feel!

Grocery stores usually keep their fresh produce and perishable products on the outside walls of the building, while all of the “shelf-stable” products are in the center aisles. This is a good indicator of how we want to prioritize our shopping for healthy food.

If we shop mainly on the outside of the aisles, we will be filling our carts with fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, meats, and fresh baked bread. While there may be a few dried goods that are also necessary, we can try to avoid canned and packaged food where possible.

This tip can drastically change your diet, and your life!

Glyphosate is the world’s leading agrochemical herbicide that has detrimental health impacts to the environment and to humans. This herbicide is mainly used on vast fields of corn and soy, which are in a variety of products but also used to feed industrial livestock. Therefore, eating animals that are fed conventional corn and soy will also pass on that glyphosate residue.

Removing these foods from your diet can greatly reduce inflammation in the body and help to heal your gut. Instead, prioritize organic produce, ancient whole grains, and grass-fed meat and dairy.

The Ayurvedic Biological Clock aligns with the three doshas, or elemental constitutions.

⏰ 6am-10am (Kapha): Meditation, Pranayama, Movement
10am-2pm (Pitta): Action, Motivation, Work
2pm-6pm (Vata): Creativity, Communication, Thinking, Writing
6pm-10pm (Kapha): Relax, Rest, Have early dinner, Go to bed

These are the daily cycles we go through. Following the Ayurvedic clock might help you to feel more energized and balanced throughout your day!

A simple and short mantra to come back to when the chaos and violence feels overwhelming.

Today our resident Ayurvedic doctor Manish Chandra shares an ancient perspective on health, coming from Sanskrit, one of the oldest languages in the world.

This definition of health includes a contented mind and soul, along with all proper physical functions of the body. It also recognizes that individuals have their own unique balance of doshas, meaning that health can be expressed differently by different people. Finally, the importance of digestion and elimination is emphasized, a core value of Ayurveda.
