State public health offices and administrative offices will be closed Monday, September 7th, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

All New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) offices will reopen as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, September 8.

The NMDOH Helpline, 1-833-SWNURSE (1-833-796-8773) will be available on Monday, September 7 during regular business hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Student nurses from Clovis, Santa Fe, Farmington, Deming, Rio Rancho, Gallup, Las Cruces and Alamogordo are helping our Healthy Kids Healthy Communities program measure height and weight across New Mexico. They’re bringing their skills, their energy, and their hearts to this important work.

For these future nurses, it’s hands-on experience that matters.

For our kids, it’s care from the next generation of New Mexico’s health workforce.

Our Healthy Kids Healthy Communities program partners with schools statewide to measure the heights and weights of kindergartners and third graders in selected schools. We honor students’ privacy during measuring, and do not collect names for our data reports.

Here’s why this data matters. It helps us:
- Track data trends
- Establish programs to increase children’s access to healthy food and physical activity
- Increase awareness of how schools can help children develop healthy habits

Nuestro programa Healthy Kids Healthy Communities colabora con escuelas de todo el estado para medir la estatura y el peso de estudiantes de kínder y tercer grado. Las escuelas participan voluntariamente en nuestra recopilación anónima de datos. Nunca se reportan los nombres de los estudiantes.

¿Por qué son importantes estos datos? Nos ayudan a:

- Establecer programas para aumentar el acceso de los niños a alimentos saludables y oportunidades para realizar actividad física.
- Dar seguimiento a las tendencias de los datos.
-Crear conciencia sobre cómo las escuelas pueden ayudar a los niños a desarrollar hábitos saludables.
