She’d been dealing with it for almost two years.
Couldn’t reach the top shelf. Couldn’t sleep on that side. Getting dressed had become something she thought about before doing it.
She’d been to three different people.
One told her to wait it out. It would resolve on its own eventually.
One gave her a set of exercises she’d been doing faithfully for six months with minimal change.
One adjusted her shoulder repeatedly. Felt better for a day or two. Same thing the next week.
Nobody could tell her why a healthy person wasn’t just getting better.
Here’s what made her case complicated.
Frozen shoulder isn’t one thing.
For some people it starts in the neck. For others the upper back has stopped moving and the shoulder is paying for it. For others there’s a hormonal component that nobody addresses because nobody asks.
Same diagnosis. Completely different root cause.
That’s why the same program fails everyone.
When she came in we didn’t just assess her shoulder.
We looked at how her whole body moved.
What was feeding the restriction.
What was slowing the recovery.
And for the first time someone explained to her why a healthy person wasn’t just bouncing back.
That’s where the change started.
Not in the shoulder.
In understanding what was actually driving it.
If you’ve been told to wait it out or given the same exercises that haven’t worked you haven’t found your root cause yet.

Nobody says it out loud when they come in.
But I hear it in everything they do say.
They tell me about the back pain. The miles they’ve cut short. The rides they’ve skipped because they weren’t sure the body would cooperate.
What they’re actually telling me is they’re scared.
Not of the pain.
Of becoming someone who used to ride.
There’s a version of themselves they’re trying to hold onto.
The one who shows up every Saturday morning before anyone else is awake.
Who rolls out with the same group they’ve ridden with for years.
Who knows every climb, every pothole, every turn on the descent.
For us the bike isn’t exercise it’s the place where nothing else matters.
Where age doesn’t exist. Where the week finally makes sense. Where they’re just a rider.
Pain threatens that identity before it threatens the body.
The back tightens on the descents and they start doing the math.
How many more of these do I have?
That’s the question nobody asks their doctor.
That’s the question I’m actually answering.
Good clinics treat.

You can train all winter for a century.
Hit every long ride on the calendar.
Build the fitness. Put in the hours.
And still have your back shut things down around mile 60.
That’s not a fitness problem.
That’s a root cause that’s been quietly ruining every ride you’ve ever done.
Here’s what we actually found when she came in.
Her hips couldn’t rotate the way the bike demands.
Not because they were tight.
Because they had no control through the range they needed.
Every pedal stroke her body was compensating.
Loading through her lower back instead of driving through her hips.
Hour one it managed.
Hour two it held on.
Hour three it gave out.
So we started at the floor.
Supine hip internal rotation. Teaching the hips to find the range they’d stopped using.
Then seated. Same movement. Different load.
Then standing. Single leg. Asking the hip to control rotation while the rest of the body stays stable.
Then we loaded it.
Because a hip that can rotate in isolation has to rotate under the demand of the bike.
That progression took weeks not days.
But when she went back to the same route something had changed.
The back stayed quiet the whole ride.
She set a PR.
Same fitness. Different body.
That’s what fixing the root cause actually does.

She’d been training for months.
Early mornings. Weekend long rides. A century on the calendar that felt ambitious when she signed up and now felt real.
The fitness was there.
But her back had done this before.
She did the ride.
Made it. But the back set in hard around mile 60.
She finished on grit not on feel.
Didn’t want to cancel. Couldn’t enjoy it the way she’d trained for.
When she came in afterward I watched how she moved.
Her hips weren’t rotating the way the bike demands.
So her back was picking up every mile they couldn’t handle.
Not in the first hour. In the third and fourth when the compensation pattern finally broke down.
That wasn’t a fitness problem.
That was a root cause that had been quietly setting a ceiling on every long ride she’d ever done.
We addressed it. Built the plan. Did the work.
She went back and rode the same route.
Set a PR.
No pain. The whole ride.
Same fitness. Same route. Different body.
That’s what finding the root cause actually does.

Six months of pickleball. Six months of that outside elbow pain flaring on every backhand.
Done everything the internet told them to do.
Compression sleeve. Ice. Rest. Anti-inflammatories. A week off the court that turned into two.
Every time they came back the elbow came with them.
Then it started showing up off the court.
Carrying things. Opening doors. Simple movements that had nothing to do with pickleball.
That’s when they knew something was actually wrong.
Here’s what we found.
The shoulder wasn’t moving the way it needed to on the swing.
Instead of loading through the shoulder and transferring force up the chain it shrugged. Compensated. Recruited the upper trap and neck to finish the movement.
Every bit of force that should have been absorbed higher up got dumped straight into the elbow instead.
Six months of every swing doing that.
The elbow wasn’t the problem.
It was just the most honest part of a chain that had been quietly failing for months.
Once we addressed how the shoulder was actually moving the elbow stopped taking the hit.
Back on the court. Moving without thinking about it.
If your elbow has been paying for something that started higher up you haven’t found the root cause yet.

She’d had low back pain on and off for ten years.
Since having kids.
She’d done chiro. PT. Learned which movements to avoid.
Stopped squatting. Stopped deadlifting. Told herself it wasn’t worth the flare.
Last spring she decided enough was enough.
Beach season coming. Wanted to feel like herself again.
She tried to squat.
Back shut her down the same day.
When she came in I watched how she moved.
Her hips weren’t pulling their weight.
Her upper back had almost no extension.
So her lower back was doing everything.
Every movement. Every rep. Every day just living her life.
Crushed in the middle trying to compensate for everything above and below it.
She stretched constantly. But she was stretching the wrong things.
Flexibility without control is just a different kind of stuck.
Once we addressed what was actually missing hip rotation, upper back extension, real stability in her lower back everything changed.
She’s squatting again. Deadlifting again.
And for the first time since having kids she told me she finally felt like the person she was before she lost her body to pregnancy.
That’s not a fitness win.
That’s an identity win.
If your back keeps shutting you down every time you try to push you haven’t found the root cause yet.

Rode with a friend yesterday.
20 years on the bike. Never raced. Never followed a structured plan.
Just rode. Loved it. Showed up every weekend for two decades.
We got talking on the climb about how most cyclists train.
Most just ride. Get fitter for a while. Plateau. Wonder why.
The smarter ones follow a plan. Work with a coach. Track the numbers. Get closer.
But here’s what’s still missing.
If your body can’t move the way the bike demands no plan fixes that.
Tight hips that can’t rotate. An upper back that’s locked up. Hands that go numb before the ride gets good.
That’s not a fitness problem.
That’s a root cause problem quietly putting a ceiling on everything else.
The most intentional training in the world hits that ceiling eventually.
We talked about it for maybe ten minutes on the way up.
By the top he’d hit a PR.
Not because he trained harder yesterday.
Because he started thinking about what was actually limiting him.
Find your root cause. Remove the ceiling.
Then watch what the plan actually does.

Woke up Friday feeling like I was hit by a truck.
WHOOP confirmed it. 10% recovery. Numbers I only see when I’m sick or the morning after one too many.
I wasn’t hungover.
I was actually sick.
Between hard training sessions Tuesday and Wednesday, late nights at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival, and a broken toe from Sunday. My body had been keeping score all week.
And Friday it handed me the bill.
So I did something most people struggle with.
I did nothing.
No training. No pushing through. No telling myself I’d feel better once I got moving.
Just rest.
Today every number pointed back in the right direction.
92% recovery. One day later.
That’s not a coincidence.
That’s what a body that’s been built with intention actually does.
It knows how to absorb a hit.
It knows when to stop.
And it knows how to come back fast.
Most people treat recovery as the absence of training.
It’s not.
It’s the whole point.
Build the body that bounces back.
That’s what we do.

The best adjustment in the world can make you feel great for three days.
Then you’re back.
Not because they did anything wrong.
Because an adjustment without a plan is just maintenance.
And maintenance doesn’t give you freedom.
It gives you a schedule.
Root cause care works differently.
We don’t just treat where it hurts. We find why it hurts.
We don’t give you open ended treatment. We give you a plan with a beginning and an end.
We don’t manage your symptoms. We build the foundation that makes them stop coming back.
The goal was never to keep you coming back forever.
The goal is to get you to the point where you don’t need us anymore.
That’s what a focused plan does that a great adjustment never can.
It gives you your body, your life back.
On your terms.
For good.

She hurt her neck doing acrobatics last fall.
Stiff. Painful. Really bad for about a week.
Then it got better.
Sort of.
Six months later she came in still aware of it every single day.
Not debilitating. Just always there.
She’d done everything right.
Rest. Trainer. Massage. Adjustments.
Nobody gave her clarity on why a healthy young person wasn’t just bouncing back.
They only focused on what hurt.
Chasing her pain instead of finding the cause.
Here’s what was actually happening.
Every time she overhead pressed at the gym her neck paid for it for days.
She had a big summer trip coming. Three months overseas. Carry on bags. No gym. No support system.
If she couldn’t do it safely in a controlled environment how was she going to manage alone on the other side of the world.
That was the outcome worth fixing.
We ran the movement screen.
Everything looked reasonable until we checked the left hip.
Moved completely different than the right.
Didn’t hurt exactly. Just didn’t feel right.
She paused.
Then the lightbulb.
“I hurt that hip in high school.”
Six months of neck stiffness. A shoulder that wouldn’t cooperate. A summer trip at risk.
All of it tracing back to a hip injury she had almost forgotten about.
The neck wasn’t the problem.
The shoulder wasn’t the problem.
An old hip injury that never fully healed had been quietly running the whole pattern.
That’s what the movement screen finds.
Not where it hurts.
Where it started.
A focused plan beats a distracted genius every time.
