🦶 What is a fungal nail?

A fungal nail (also called toenail fungus) happens when fungus gets underneath the nail and starts to grow. The nail may become thick, yellow, brittle, crumbly, or even lift away from the skin. Sometimes there’s odor or discomfort too.

Many people think it’s “just cosmetic,” but untreated fungal nails can actually lead to bigger problems — especially for people with diabetes, poor circulation, or difficulty caring for their feet. Thick fungal nails can cause pressure, pain in shoes, ingrown nails, and even skin breakdown or infection.

Tips to help prevent fungal nails:
✔️ Keep feet clean and dry
✔️ Change socks daily
✔️ Wear breathable shoes
✔️ Don’t walk barefoot in public showers/pools
