Before she was Dr. Ceciley Maxa, she was a patient.

After being diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), she experienced firsthand what it felt like to live with chronic pain and search for answers. That journey ultimately led her to Functional Neurology and inspired her to become the doctor she once needed.

Today, her approach is rooted in both clinical expertise and lived experience—helping patients uncover the why behind their symptoms and supporting true healing through personalized, nervous system-focused care.

Because sometimes the best doctors are the ones who have walked the path themselves. 🤍

Digestive symptoms aren’t always just a gut issue.

Your vagus nerve is a key part of the brain-gut connection, helping regulate digestion, motility, and communication throughout the digestive tract.

When the nervous system is dysregulated, digestion can be too. Supporting vagus nerve function is one way we help restore balance and promote healing from the inside out.

No two nervous systems are the same, so no two adjustments should be!!

Functional neurological adjustments are based on your unique brain and nervous system function, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

It’s important to explain how personalized care helps support better brain-body communication and long-term healing.

Our vagus nerve is the communication highway between your brain and body.

When it’s under stress or not functioning optimally, symptoms can show up as anxiety, poor sleep, digestive issues, brain fog, fatigue, headaches, dizziness, or feeling constantly stuck in fight-or-flight mode.

At Watkins Family Chiropractic, we use Vagus Nerve Stimulation to help calm the nervous system, improve brain-body communication, and support your body’s ability to rest, recover, and heal naturally.

Sympathetic: fight • flight • survive ⚡
Parasympathetic: rest • regulate • heal 🌿

When the sympathetic nervous system stays chronically activated, the body can begin to express signs of dysregulation: tension, fatigue, headaches, poor sleep, anxiety, brain fog, and burnout.

True healing happens when the nervous system shifts out of stress adaptation and back into parasympathetic function — where recovery, repair, and regulation occur.

Chiropractic care focused on the neurospinal connection can help support better nervous system function and adaptability.

Relaxed? We know that feeling is rare.

For many people, the nervous system has been stuck in sympathetic dominance for so long that stress feels normal — and relaxation feels unfamiliar.

Chronic stress can keep the body in a constant state of tension and survival, affecting sleep, digestion, focus, energy, recovery, and overall regulation.

Healing is not just about “feeling better.” It’s about helping the nervous system shift back into a parasympathetic state where the body can repair, regulate, and function the way it was designed to.

Chiropractic care focused on the neurospinal connection can help support nervous system adaptability and resilience.

If your body has forgotten what relaxed feels like, it may be time to reconnect with your nervous system.
